Cutting Braided Line?

Featured Replies

How do you guys cut braided line? I use a clipper but it seems to damage the teeth and doesn't really work well .... Scissor doesn't really work well too ... The only way that I find work is burning it with a lighter ...

I keep it simple.  My pocketknife.  If a knife won't cut braid it is dull and needs to be sharpened.  No need to make it harder than it is.

Technically what you want are a pair of serrated scissors. Once you have them, open them up and hold the piece tight that you want to cut. Run the serated edge of one side in a cutting motion like a knife. This will also keep the scissors from being damaged. Learned this tying flies using kevlar thread.

BPS braid scissors. They are 2.99 and work great. I have a couple pairs.

I use my leatherman multi-tool, but any pocket knife should work. Buy a good sharping stone, if your knife is dull.

My good sharp machete and the braided line on top of log, :cut:  LOL , LOL

Nah, I use my pocket knife. if is sharp will work, I always keep it sharp. You never know when you will need it on the woods. I'm a bank river/lake fisherman dude.

I got a pair of rapala braid sccissors from Wally's that do a great job just be sure you don't cut mono or or things with them as it will mess up the teeth.

The SNIP from Boomerang Tool or just go buy a pair of Fiskars Kid Scissors.  Either one slices through 65lb. braid with no issues.

There's a seller on eBay that has these for $11.95 with free shipping. It's even cheaper than the 3pack from the main website if it has shipping costs.

In addition to kid scissors, I use surgical scissors from an army survival kit. They work great. Put it on a retractible lanyard along with a pair of forceps.

Boomerang Snip

I utilize my P-line Adaro Pliers which have the braid cutter build into them.  Works like a charm :D  Plus you have pliers available as well :)

Spyderco Delica.  Keep it razor sharp and it cuts braid easily.

I use fingernail clippers, and they work just fine.

For me it's lighter or cigarette.  I don't want a fine cut, I want the end of my tag line to have a little bead on it, helps to avoid pull throughs on the knot.  On a side note, I've done quite a few fishing trips into the wilderness for a week at time, I always carried about 5 or 6 disposable lighters each packed in their own waterproof container and each stored in a different place.  You lose or get one wet you have plenty of backup.  You don't want to spend a few days in damp clothes in northern Canada, been there & done that and it ain't fun.

I'm another advocate of the Boomerang SNIP.  It cuts through limp braid like a knife through hot butter.

I have and always used a pair of dykes, cut through anything including steel leaders if so required..

Kids scissors or the snip tool. I like the snip because it has the retractable zinger and it stays connected to my crate with no worries of losing or forgetting it.
