Your Best Jig Retrieve?

Featured Replies

A lot of you fish jigs, but there are so many ways to fish them.

What is your favorite retrieve/presentation with the jig?

Do you...

Pitch and flip it, drag it on the bottom, swim it, hop it, shake it, etc...

It changes from day to day...i change the presentation until i get bit, then i repeat it and fine tune as i go.

As far as your question goes...what is MY FAVORITE? I would prefer to make short pitches and flips, and just let it fall and get bit on the fall... but that would be in a perfect world.

Pitch to cover, and they thump it on the fall, or suck it in as soon as it hits bottom or on the first "hop" is my favorite type of jig bite, and probably how I catch  75% of my jig fish.

I like to Pitch to cover and like stated above give it a hop and that is usually when I will get bit.

the best jig retrieve is the one they bite.  a jig can be fished from top to bottom.  it can be swam, drug, crawled, jigged, coasted, and any other way to be conjured up.

With a football jig I normally drag it. If I'm fishing a brush jig or finesse jig I like to hop it. If you've ever seen a crawfish when it knows a bass is close it normally takes one of two approaches to not becoming lunch. It either backs away slowly with it's claws directed towards the bass, the drag retrieve, or it will flip it's tail and try to get to a spot to hide, the hop retrieve.

I love retrieving a jig when there is a bass attached. My favorite way to attach bass is pitching cover.

I like to fish a jig on structure by moving it slowly with long pauses.

Lift the jig as you might imagine a craw crawling over a rock, subtle

and short.
