What Is Your "go To" Dropshot Bait?

Featured Replies

Curious to see what people reach for first when dropshotting. I'm looking to gear up when a sale rolls around and wanted to see what others are rigging up!

Roboworm fat in warmouth color!

I just started drop shot fishing last year so I have not tried a lot of lure but the bait that I caught the most fish on was the Regular  6" Roboworm in Aarons Magic red & blue flake.

Roboworm is my #1.  I also have some success with the Strike King dreamshot.

We need a Rage Shot.  :)

Used to be the GYCB Shad shape worm, but last year I found the Berkley Twitch tail minnow. While not that much cheaper than the GYCB, the tail will at least last beyond the first perch or bluegill pull.

I'm not a big drop shotter but I like the Roboworm Alive Shad and the GY Shad Shape Worm when I do.

Thanks for the replies, looks like i'll be looking into some Roboworms.

Berkley drop shot worm but they are discontinued.

This past season was my first time using a dropshot.  I used two different worms, the zoom finesse worm and the Yum Shakealisous, I had more success on the shakealisous out of the two but I did well with both baits.  To answer your question the zooms were the first I'd pickup but I seemed to do better on yum

I picked up some Missle baits fuse 4.4 and plan on picking up some roboworms to tryout this spring.

Robo worms get the job done but are over rated in drop shot fishing. Strike king dream shot as mentioned above are great. Middle baits drop craw is a very nice finesse craw drop shot bait. Mix it up throwing the drop shot. Also one of my favorite drop shot techniques is using a finesse jig as my weight and then having a craw fish bait (drop craw) nose hooked. Your getting a two for one punch.

Twitchtail minnow

Zman finesse worm

Meathead worm

KVD Dream Shot worm, good live worm action.

One other little secret is a 3 inch senko wacky rigged on a dropshot! Now I have said too much!...lol..

For you guys using jigs on the bottom. Are you adjusting your leader length any different then you would if it were just a weight?

I make the leader typically a little shorter when I use a jig for a weight, as I have to clip off the hook in mn to obey state laws, usually about 12 inches and as long as 16 and as short as 6. The baits I really love to use with drop shotting are a 3-5 in senko type bait, a 5-7 in finesse worm, GYCB shad tail worm, and Gulp alive leeches/crawlers.

What's your hook up ratio with that setup?  Kdding there - but what is the point, if you cannot have a second hook?

Substitute the Berkley twitchtail minnow for the GYCB shad shape worm, and we pretty much think the same.

Another vote for dropshotting small stick baits rigged wacky.. its a bizarre way to use them, but it has salvaged more than one day for me. My advice is to experiment with fall rates, a heavy weight will make it drop pretty fast and flutter in an erratic manner. I've caught LMB this way in weeds when they'd ignore most everything else, strange but it works.

When I am doing the finesse drop shot option, there are a bunch of different baits I might use, for the most part it will be come 4" to 5" straight tail worm.  For the Bubba drop shot, which I do most of the time I like a couple of Berkley baits.

The 5" power bait jerk shad - start with Arkansas Shiner color and then tint it will spike it markers.  The 4" Crazy legs chigger craw is also a good choice.
