I've pretty much abandonded mono in favor of fluoro in the last couple of years, but want to use mono for spinnerbaits and topwaters.

In the past I always used Trilene XL but would like your ideas regarding a better choice of line and what test to use for these applications. I'd like to use the same rod for both applications.

Sufix Elite or Sunline Super Natural.

I like stren personally. It's cheap and probably just as good as the trilene as they are in the same league. I've never had memory issues with it like with other cheaper lines. My favorite is the clear/blue fluorescent so I can see my line especially when I'm senko fishing.

Suffix deep cranking is the best mono I've used for anything

Big Game works great for me.

For my money? Vicious is the best price/performance I have ever tied on for mono. Much less memory on my spinning reels than trilene. Haven't had any problems with the stren either, other than I think it gets waterlogged faster when I'm bottom dragging then switch to topwater, but that's nitpicking.

Sufix seige or elite. I like seige a little better because it is tougher.

I like Berkley Trilene XT clear.  Definitely not the greatest when it comes to ease of casting but it's abrasion resistance and strength has impressed me countless times over the years.

I hate Trilene with a passion.  Way too much memory for my liking.  Spooled up 3 rods with it a couple weeks ago even though I don't like it because it was all I could get a hold of at the time and just wanted to get out and fish.  I fished with it for 3 hours and got so many twists and wind knots that I took it all off and threw it away as soon as I got home.  It's Suffix Siege for me.  Casts smooth, nice and limp with very little memory, and doesn't fray much at all.

Berkley big game can not be beat as far as mono goes IMO.

I like BPS house brand mono also for the price and quality.

Sunline Defier, Defier Armilo, and Toray Polyamide Plus are the three best I have ever used and nothing else is even close. They're pricey so I'll use XL or Super Natural in a pinch. The top 3 are the best of the best and they last a lot longer than typical mono.

i used to use trilene xl a lot. never had any problems with it, other than it would fray easily. however i just switched to sufix seige last year to try something new, it helps that spools of it were on sale for $5 at BPS too lol. Youre right that it casts smooth and is nice and limp, its just a better line.

i would recommend 12lb sufix seige

Sufix Seige/Elite and I may be the odd duck here but I have really had some great luck with Cajun Line

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. It's not too late to learn that premise.

I got some Red Cajun 12# at a good price.  Have it on 2 or 3 baitcast reels with no problem.  For me Big Game seems to have a fair amount of memory.  It does work better after fishing with it for a bit.  Many years ago I used XL for a long time while a friend used Stren.  Neither of us had any complaints.

 

I've been trying...and still am....different brands just to see what I would prefer.  So far I like my Sufix lines a lot.  Maybe more so than the Super Natural I have on one rod.  Guess I expected too much of it based on reviews.  It isn't bad, just not sure if it is any better than Sufix.

 

Lots more lines out there for me to try.  Not sure if I'll live that long, tho.
