Going into my second year of fishing I'm discovering the quickest knot to tie (when using mono) is the improved clinch knot.  I tie two knots, the improved knot and the palomar knot.  I know the palomar knot is super strong.  I know the improved clinch knot is also strong but I'm not sure how strong.  

 

 I'm wondering how many of you use the improved clinch knot almost all the time.  Lets say you are taking a trip to lake known for big bass and you are almost guaranteed to catch some big bass.  Would you use the improved clinch knot with your mono line?  

complete faith, I use it as a knot when flathead and bluecat fishing, I have pulled in some fish that way much more than any bass that has been caught in recent times, with no problems.  Great knot and easy to tie.

I use mono with an improved clinch knot about 90% of the time. I've hauled in stripers up to 35 lbs. and flatheads up to 40 lbs. with no problems. Six wraps and plenty of spit and you're good to go.

It's the only knot I use. Can't remember the last time I had a knot fail. I believe it has more to do with who's tying it. You can have faith in a good knot. A loose knot will slip.

I use the improved clinch 99% of the time the only exception is when I'm running straight braid then I use the palomar I have 100% confidence in it. I've tied it enough that I can confidently tie it in the dark without a light

Mike L... good call with the Trilene knot.  Head to head tests between the Trilene and Improved Clinch that I have seen or read have always yeilded better strength results with the Trilene.

I use palomar knot on larger lb test lines and the improved clinch knot on smaller lb test...10 and under. I appreciate the smaller profile the palomar knot makes. Also I wrap 5 times..how about everyone else...how many wraps?

I use it, works great. Easy to tie on spinnerbaits and buzzbaits.

100% faith, but I don't use it for mono.  I use a total of 4 knots, braid does get the improved clinch but with a double wrap at the end, 20# is the heaviest I use.  My leaders whether they are mono or F/C get an ordinary clinch, 40# offshore, usually 20# inshore and 10-15# for freshwater.  Loopknot for lures, but I just use an ordinary clinch for jigs, both fresh and saltwater.  Finally an alberto for line joining.  These knots work just fine.

First knot I learned as a kid but as soon as I learned the palomar I've never used it again.  I rarely use lures that dont require a loop knot really.

Palomar for braid, improved clinch knot for mono/copoly. I actually tried the trilene knot yesterday, im going to use that from now on.

I used to use the improved clinch, but I moved to the Trilene know and have stuck with that. I only use two knots really. Braid and Fluoro get Palomar, mono and any lure that the Palomar can't be tied I go with the Trilene knot.

When I used to work in a sporting goods store we had a knot tester and did a lot of knot tests.  We found out for us that the Trilene even when tied a little bad was a decent knot.  When tied well it was awesome.  The Palomar when tied well was awesome also...but if tied imperfect busted much easier that the Trilene.  So have stuck with Trilene myself....

I go back and forth between the Improved Clinch and the Trilene depending on how much of a hurry I'm in. Takes a little more care to tie the Trilene. For braid I use the Palomar. For heavy mono (30lb +) I use the San Diego Jam Knot, but that's not for bass.
