I was wondering just how far you guy's can cast square bill crankbaits in yardage terms? I don't see much mention of yardage lengths,( so just how far would an average cast be in yardage 30-35-40-45-50 or how long).Also what rods in power n stiffness do you use to get the maximum yardage.If you guys can give me some info on what rods you use to get the best distances I would appreciate it. Any n all info is appreciated on this matter.ty so much

I don't know how many yards, but I'm tellin' ya, I can throw a KVD squarebill so far, that you can barely see the thing, on a St. Croix Avid Med/Fast, with a Lews Tournament pro with 17lb flouro. Crazy far.

I am not sure exactly how far i can cast squarebills, as i typically cast them to specific targets, but if I had to cast long I could easily cast a kvd 1.5-2.5 40 yards with my skeet reese glass cranking rod with my Quantum kinetic pt... but typically i cast them 20ish yards...

I appreciate your replys ty... but when you say you can cast quite a distance just exactly what is quite a distance? I have marked off 30 40 50 yards exactly in my backyard so I know I am getting 30 yards per cast but what is a good casting distance I cant gauge my yardage agains't  an unknown factor

I say i could hit 45-50 yds with my square bills maybe even touch 60-65 i can wiz them suckers i throw em on a skeet reese finesse/fluke rod with skeet reese reel n 12 lb mono

I can probably get 30 yards, maybe a little further with the wind at my back or a heavy bait. Most of my cast with a squarebill are going to be fairly short though since I'm normally running them through cover and around obstacles. 

I would say 20 to 30 yards depending on the conditions where I am fishing.

I was throwing around 35-40 with my bps carbonlite reel but now that I use the Quantum Smoke I got a few more yards out of it. I know this because the farm pond I fish is 43 yards across and with the smoke I have been able cast onto the other shore. I use 12lb mono in my Smoke and 15lb Flouro on my old carbonlite.

Anyone who says they are casting 50+ yards with a square bill, doesn't know how far 50 yards is.

Man I can cast a square bill so far....I have to duck so that sucker doesn't wallop me in the back of the head after it makes a full revolution around the earth! I use a 12.5' super slinger rod mated with a moon shooter reel that has super-tuned bearings as well as a V8 engine to haul all that line in.

 

Don't waste your time worrying about the actual measurement of your casting distance, just learn to put the bait where the fish are and you'll be good to go.

Someone usually finds a post I made years ago and reposts it.  It goes sort of like this...

 

Go to your local football field and stand at the goal line.  Make your best cast.  I think you'll be surprised  that what you thought was a mile,  well,  it's not quite as far as you thought it was...

my casting rings on my gps are set for a hundred feet (33 yards).  If i need accuracy, I need to be no more than 25 yards away.  If fishing a point or flat then i"ll stay back around 35...

Oh my gosh! I think you've spent too much time, up the hill there, walking around in that bull manure. Ha! Ha!

Just went outside and put this to a test. Took the same set-up that I used this past weekend and didn't change a thing on it. I was using a Daiwa Tatula 6.3 (brake setting on 4) on a Duckett Ghost 7' M with 14lb Sufix Elite. I was casting an Xcalibur xcs100(2" - 1/2 oz) and the wind was blowing 6-8 mph from the south. I made 10 casts, all straight to the East and my shortest was 32.5 and the longest was 39.7(verified by a Nikon prostaff RF), for an average of 36.1.

 

I am sure there are guys getting more, but I would be stunned if people were averaging 50+ yards with a square bill.

I really can't answer that question.

I don't measure my casting distance in 'yards', but by the number of 'minutes' to splashdown.
