I have to admit, Bounchanh Bounsombath of Clovis, New Mexico (who may or may not be a local guy) is one really talented & consistent trout angler.

But can someone please tell me what this human plans to do with 1600 trout ?

Perhaps he has a Really Big Family who all really like fish.

After the first 6 or 700, I would think he must have felt like he had enough . . . . .

He must have one Huge Arm after all that fly casting . . .

He's going to sell them in his restaurant.

They are hatchery trout so i doubt they taste any good anyways.

The other thing is this is a possession limit problem really.  Who is to say he didn't go out every day last year and keep his limit and then not eat them?

I would bet many on here, myself included, are not aware of the possession limits for fish in most cases.

I believe the law was 10 in possession at home.

5 per day allowed.. Only 10 at you're home at anytime.

What other kind of problem is it...?

The possession limit is 10. That means you can only possess up to 10 trout on your or in your freezer at home.

Right that is what i am saying, it is a possession issue and not necessarily that he went out and caught them all one day.

By saying it is a possession limit i am saying that it isn't a daily limit issue but a possession limit.

Well...obviously unless you were lead to believe he caught 1600 trout in one day.

Possession limits can pose a problem for those of us who tried to kill or catch all the meat our families eat. We only go fishing a few times a year with the expectation of getting enough fish to eat off of for the year. I'm blessed to live near some overstocked farm ponds where we can legally and ethically take dozens of bass and bream out at a time for the freezer.

What was he using?   :eyebrows:

An extremely LARGE bucket!  :respect-059:

I understand what you're saying, but 1,600 trout would mean that the man would have to consume 4.3 trout per/day, every day for a year.

Assuming he was feeding his family trout once a week, he'd need to have about thirty kids to eat them all.  If he is that dedicated to eating trout, how many did he already consume prior to being busted?

I've seen the same thing in the past when guys would go smelt dipping and bring home a trash can full of those little fish.  Two or three gallons would feed our family of seven all year long, so how many does it take to eat 50 gallons?  The same goes for bluegills.  I know many people who made annual trips to Rice Lake in Ontario due to the fact of no limits.  A weekend trip could mean a guy bringing home 300 fish, or more.

I don't think this is about stocking up for the year.  This is about the human nature of greed.

Judging by the guys name, he may be ignorant of the law................no excuse, but let's not lynch him. Maybe he come from a culture/area of the world where food is a luxury...........yeah there are places in the world where the basics are hard to come by. So the guy goes out to stocked ponds, is catching fish left and right (were talking about stockers BTW..not wild natives) and thinks well if I freeze these, me and my family will not starve if times are tough..............OR maybe he is just a scum bag. WE don't know, but to judge him based on an internet article with the minimum facts presented is pretty easy for a bunch of high and mighty white dudes who don't know all the facts. If he's a scumbag poacher......he deserves all he gets and more, if he's an ignorant misguided foreigner, explain to him what he did wrong, levy his fine and move on.

I think you might be on to something. That's just too many fish to clean!

There must be more to the story.

I doubt that.  he was fly fishing.  Have you seen the price tag on most flyfishing equipment?  I doubt money was the issue.

They should throw his butt in jail and give him a life time ban from fishing. that would teach him.
