Big Worms And Hooks

Featured Replies

What hook do you guys use on a 10 in worm? 5/0 or 4/0?, Offset vs Straight? EWG vs Round? What brand? Thanks....

I use EWG 90% of the time. On 10" worms I use a 5/0 Gamakatsu.

gammy skip gap 5/0 when using light sinker and thus a lighter rod to throw it on.  It is a lighter gauge hook that works well on a lighter rod in open water.

owner extra wide  gap 5/0 offset for any other situation.

Trokar 5/0 Offset Worm Hook

Not every bite is a big momma, not every bite means the fish mouthed the bait properly, little fish have bigger mouth than brains so most of the strikes you get come from smaller fish.

Are you suggesting someone actually read and try to do some research before asking a mindless question??  How dare you!  Good day sir!  :Idontknow:

I never select hook size based on worm length!

The hook fot most 10" worms aint the same a one for a 6" Senko.

Before anyone can accurately recommend a 'hook size', they'd need to know a few things:

> Assuming it'll be T-rigged, will the worm be fished 'weighted' or 'unweighted'?

> What 'sink rate' are you looking for?  (very slow - slow - medium - brisk - rapid)

> What's the worm diameter and shape where the hook is inserted? (length is immaterial)

For 12inch berkly power worms and zoom ole' monsters I use a 6/0 cutting edge eagle claw EWG but I'm gonna try out round bends for big worms because that what some other people suggested

Really dude? Where did that come from?

I've been using a T Rig 3/16 oz..with 10.5 inch Ole Monster from Zoom. I don't know the diameter. This setup in Plum Apple has been on fire for me. Caught my PB (from that lake) two nights ago. I'm hooking most..just was curious if I should try something other than EWG.

Sorry dude, it was a sarcastic reply to WRB's post.  People have a bad habit of asking questions without even trying to think for themselves.  It wasn't really aimed at you, your question is a good one.

10 inch Berkley Power Worm / Zoom 10 inch 'Ol Monster Worm

Gamakatsu Offset Round Bend Worm Hook 5/0

Rig very straight and embed the hook point into the worm

I believe better hook up % than with EWG - a 10 inch worm is not that thick ...Save your EWG hooks for thicker craw / beaver / creature type baits (such as the Pit Boss).

Nice combo Todd.

With that setup I'd probably use a 4/0 Gamakatsu Round-Bend Hook

(forged needlepoint - Z-shank keeper - 0.053" wire)

Thanks to everybody, I'm fishing a charity tournament for an 8 y/o with cancer this weekend so I'm going today to pick up more worms and hooks.
