Picked up a new rod today for myself as well as my girl it's a Daiwa RG 701MXS it's apparently a walleye rod but i talked to one of the guys at a local shop and he was telling me how impressed he was with it for finesse applications so i grabbed it came in at $80CAD which is roughly $60USD i'll review it once it gets fished when the season opens. it was actually a great deal i returned a drag star i bought from them and got this instead.

Had a quicky at DSG. Bought some plastics and tackle to restock. Looks like they are heavy into Savage Gear now... So I had to by a 1oz Dark Gill Blue Gill... Just because @Bluebasser86 has one... Field & Stream has  Zerust in their tackle storage now, than I noticed they're made by Flambau... bought a double pack.

I'm gonna try it out this weekend. This will be the first time I'll be trying a swimbait like this. Where would you use a bait like this? Maybe @Bluebasser86, or @Master Bait'r can chime in also. Seen them having luck with these types of swimbaits.

I've been using it in a quarry, very shallow, but the bass like this one. I give it a quick pull as soon as it hits the water, then reel in slowly then I'll give it another quick pull. I'd say fish it anywhere, I was catching 1 1/2-2 pounders on it.

I fish that little one in the same places I'd fish a wake bait or spinnerbait. Pretty much a straight retrieve bait but you can kill if for just a second so it glides off to the side too.

Oh yeah!

That and try a super slow retrieve with an occasional 5 or 6 frantically fast handle turns mixed in as you work it past cover.

Another variation of that is to slowly swim it along the bottom but then stroke it up high a few times along the journey.

Or just burn it over grass/weed beds.

Swimbaits and glides in general are just fun.  The size, the action, the bites...  nothing quite like them!

Had 2 tournaments on Thursday so had time to burn between them. Took 1st place for 2nd wk in a row in co's so went to one of the tackle shops on Fork. 2nd pick is burning time in walmart while the gf is shopping. Thought I would throw a little review in with this also. The V&M & Talon jigs are very nice, with the Talon being top notch quality. It's a do all jig with a hand tied wire skirt that is cut to length and ready to go out of the package. I think the Berkley Fusion weedless wacky hooks are going to become my new go to wacky hook. The Trokars r nice but not sure how weedless they will be.  I fished the Beast Coast swimbaits the other day and they are awesome with a great action.

Looks like I'm not the only one who thought that Savage Gear (Dark Gill) Bluegill looked great, and just had to have it... I picked this one up earlier this year at DSG as well.

haha thanks.  I seem to have figured out how to catch ice walleyes, but have yet to catch a single open water walter

I'm hoping that changes this summer.

Sportsman pick up and also had to stop by dsg to see if they had any good deals and I think the mega bass at $15 each is good enough ..no savage blue Gill and looks like the cclearanced items were all gone

A few things I've acquired via trade recently

IMG_5867.JPG

I told myself "no more baits/tackle until 4th of July Sales so I can buy a new rod" about two and half weeks ago.

Then the Father's day sales came.  I see overstock baits has had a couple new sales and are offering a first time custome/free shipping deal.  Heres what came next:

2x Lindy crappie dancer jigs

1x Uncle Josh floating trout pellets

1x GYCB 4 inch curly tail worm

3x Z-Man pitching craws

2x Booyah Hard Knockers

Then from the farmers market:

Lazer sharp treble hooks

8 roostertails and some beetle spins

Pack of Ned Rig heads (looks like somebody hand poued these)

2x KVD 1.5's

Some more zoom plastics

Ha! I was wondering the same thing myself when I saw it (it came like that).

Turns out it's a hook bonnet designed for feathered trebles, it goes on from the top! Pretty smart actually. It unfolds on one side so you can get it on

Interesting. I've always hated having the back hook on some of my feathered topwaters being free and covering the front.

I am googling like mad but am coming up with nothing.  I suppose there isnt a brand name on it somewhere?

Looking closer this might be a modified thing. Idk

The only hook bonnets I've found that I actually like are Owner Safety Caps, I wonder if you could modify those. Or better yet, I'm sure Owner would sell a bunch if they could design ones that would work with feathered trebles.
