Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)

Featured Replies

Well, the bait monkey got me hook, line and sinker...pun intended.

Started last Sept at the end of target archery season.  Decided not to hunt but fish which meant getting my boat out of the storage lot.  New tires, new prop, hydrofoil started it all.  It gets better (I have a BPS 12 miles from me, a Cabelas 5).  Decided I "needed" a new fish finder.  Was going to get a basic Helix 5 but ended up getting a 7 SI.  Then added a 999 and moved the Helix to the bow.  After fishing in the fall/early winter winds decided I "needed" a new TM so ordered a Terrova 80# 45" w/Link.  Didn't get to put it on until spring.

Now, here is where I fell for the Bait Monkey big time.  A friend got me started on Muskie fishing (still love bass fishing).  In the process I broke my hand and couldn't shoot archery all summer.  I started thinking about a new boat since my wife was interested in fishing with me but not getting pounded or wet in my flat bottomed bass boat.  Figured Jan/Feb next year.  Nope!  BM showed me a new 2016 Lowe deep V that had everything I wanted for far less than I could get it if I waited.  So, now I have a new boat to go along with all the other new gadgets (moved all the electronics over). But my Terrova was too short...so I had a shop in Arkansas replace the shaft with  60" version.  Works great.  I also have two TMs since the new boat came with one AND I have two boats now.

Adding insult to injury, Muskie lures cost 3X what I was paying for bass lures and I now have 3 tackle boxes/bags to take with me when I head to the water.  Add a set of rod holders and new fishing tackle for my wife (did you think she was going to be left out?).

Damm, you Bait Monkey!!!

The bank account didn't like it much.  Last new boat I bought was in '86.  Guess you can say I went a little overboard with my fishing and the bait monkey...

Been waiting on these baby's since april. Been a bad year for me and the hinkle baits one broke one snapped off. And one clipped the wrong end of the knot and sunk to the depths of fork. Time to be more careful

2 in the photo and you lost 3? My condolences. I think i might've ended myself if I cut the mainline instead of the tag and watched that guy sink out. You're a stronger man than I am.

I've jumped out of a kayak to grab baits that fell off before, but I can't imagine how much your stomach drops when something that expensive falls in.

I just ordered one of these, and bought two livetarget bait ball cranks, and 3 livetarget lipless cranks.... I've never caught a fish on a swim bait and I already have buyers remorse...

Dang, that stinks. Very nice looking baits though, hopefully you catch some monsters.

What's the sink rate on those? I'd be jumping in if there was even a slight possibility I could catch up to it before it got too deep.

Its ok buddy. This is a "No Judgement Zone".  We've all been there. You see something online or in the store and you start to twitch. At first its just a little twitch in your left hand but then it gets worse. Before you know it you are shaking all over. You need it! You gotta have it! That's when the bait monkey shows up. He whispers in your ear. "Its what you deserve. You've been working hard and you should treat yourself." Next thing you know you're sitting alone in the middle of the night, in front of a computer monitor waiting for a Tackle Warehouse sale to start. But by admitting you need help you have taken the first step in recovery. :thumbsup_blue:

Found a sweet used bait buy/sell group on facebook and saw a couple deals I just couldn't pass up: Got the snag proof frog lot for $30 and I also picked up 2 90 size whopper ploppers and 2 98 size rovers (1 of each in loon and 1 in powder) for $32.  Great value if you ask me, but my wallet's still $62 lighter.

Wait a minute... who said anything about admitting they need help?

The baits from this batch are the most buoyant hinkles I've fished  they'd be super slow sink  probably around rof 2 or 3.

You are all going to think I have lobsters crawling out of my ears but Field & Stream has "buy two or more shadow raps and pay $6.00 each" and I picked two up and.....a few minutes later PUT THEM BACK!  Can you believe it?!!  Next thing you know, I might start eating sensibly and exercising!

  • Super User

:jaw-drop::shocked: You put them back?!?!?!?  Wait till the bait monkey gets a hold of you mister! He is not gonna be happy about this.

Wow! Are you a professional fisherman?

River2Sea Double Plopper Buzzbait

I went to Cabela's this morning and as I was walking down the main aisle of the store the "BAIT MONKEY" bit into me before I even knew it and I had bought two Real Floating Buzz's, Double Poppers. One in Power and the other in I Know It colors. They were only $16.99 each plus tax. So now I am the proud possessor of two of the latest and greatest Buzz Baits that float. Great, we now have some thing for the Buzz Bait Fisherman. See all we have to do is start talking about this stuff and the companies will oblige us. I have a tournament the 18th and 19th of October and then I will know if my choice was good. Hope to get back to you and have positive information. Buy them while their "HOT"... LOL

If you like the original River2Sea Whopper Plopper, then you’re going to love the River2Sea Double Plopper Buzzbait. Built with two counter-rotating plopper blades to create twice the disruption, the River2Sea Double Plopper Buzzbait offers an incredibly weedless presentation that can be fished super-fast, incredibly-slow, or with a dead-stop – because it floats!

Quite possibly one of the most versatile topwater lures on the market, the River2Sea Double Plopper Buzzbait can be bombed over open water, crawled over mats, or twitched and paused in the backs of pockets to incite explosive blow-ups. Backed by a super-sharp River2Sea Big Bite 2X strong hook, the River2Sea Double Plopper Buzzbait delivers a double-dose of disruption to give anglers twice the action and twice the excitement.

DSG online is running a buy 4 get 2 free on almost every bait...including whopper ploppers.

It's awful, I black out at work and somehow have a drawer full of lures. I'm gonna have to stop bringing my wallet to work.

  • Super User

Dang you!

I ended up with 2 Whopper Ploppers in 90, 2 in 130 and 2 Terminator spinnerbaits.

Yesterday was a good day for cranking!  I scored a big lot of "used" baits even though most appear to be new or barely used.  Damiki crankbaits DC 200/300/400, Megabass bait x's and some megabass rebel craws. Anybody know anything about these MB rebel craws?  They have some awesome paint jobs, the pics don't do them justice at all!

also waiting on me was my avail microcast spool for my curado 101b.  it's not a really shallow spool much more so than the stock and incredibly lightweight too in comparison.  Should make that reel is a sweet little unit for crankbaits!

Those MB rebel claws look awesome. Wish I could help you with some info on those. All I can say is hang on to them, they look like they would fish really well and if their one of the rare varieties they might be worth a little cash. Nice find!

Those Rebel Craws look custom painted.  They're a great bait!  These were one of my primary baits that I trolled for smallmouth on Lake Ontario.  They're equally effective on deep, rocky shoals.  Something about that lip dessign really allows it to dig in, at decent speeds.
