I was wondering what are the top water baits you guys like to use, besides frogs when targeting for bass?

 

I dont have many of those in my tackle box so I'm looking to get some.

 

Let me know what do you like to use and at what time of the day!

Early morning while the sun's coming up, I'll throw popper and spook type baits, there's also buzzbaits, prop baits, and more. I like to start with a popper though.

Poppers are a good place to start. Easy to learn, hard to get wrong. I have a particular fondness for propbaits, though -- you can work them steady and fast like a buzzbait, or slow like a popper, or something in between..rip, rip, pause....., rip, rip pause...

Hula Popper, Rebel Popper, Heddon Zara Spook, Megastrike Cavitron Buzzbait. 

1/4 ounce pop r style bait, thrown on spinning gear, avid medium-light rod 7' length. 6 to 8 mono or copoly ( soft line ) it's a blast fishing this rig & bait..

Lots of companies make buzzbaits, Booyah Strike King an Wareagle to name a few. Don't worry about all the clacker and double-propped ones. Just go with your regular single-prop for now. Heddon has the torpedo, a solid propbait, and they have a couple variations of the spook.

Buzzbait, popper, and a spook are my favorites. 

My best is Pop R-type popper. Get them all because there'll be days when they'll hit one and not another.

An often overlooked surface presentation many places (except FLA) is a Swimbait type bait weightless on an EWG hook slow rolled right over the Old Fat Ladies head.

 

Reation Innovations Skinny Dipper, Gambler Big Easy, and Z-Man Grass Kickerz are all solid choices.

How can you buzz your  beloved Larew salt craws? It wont create much of a commotion , just come straight in   . I buzzed curl tail worms like the Gator tail  and curl tail grubs .

I had a tournament this past week where this came in handy.  I always carry a pack of swimming caffeine shads just for this purpose.  Saw it on an episode of Strike King fish hard on Okeechobee ... tried it ... it worked ... kept doing it.  

If you are fishing from the shore I think the small Pop-R makes the most sense. It will get you the most bites and build your confidence. 

 

From a boat I would consider a Spook or Spook Jr. so you can learn how to cover lots of water, or if you have a lot of cover in your lake a buzzbait.

Got one word for ya. Cavitron.

I like the pop-r.  It has been my top producing hard bait this year.  I also like running a 6" straight worm, or a 6" senko type bait across the top of the water.  It doesn't create a lot of action, but it gives off a good wake behind it.

Zoom uvibes, Flukes, spook, chug bug, mouse, that's just to name a few.

buzz it = rig it weedless and move it fast enough to keep it on top with any legs/arms/tails/appendages wiggling. You can buzz just about any plastic bait as a topwater. Some, like the Stanley Ribbit, the Rage Toad and Rage shad are made specifically for this.

most of the other suggestions are consistent with what I like:

Popper: Rebel Pop-R, Chug bug, Hula Popper

Buzzbait; Megastrike Cavitron

Propbait: Heddon Torpedo (I actually prefer the smaller Tiny Torpedo, 1/4oz)

Walking bait: Zara Spook

My favorite top water bait is the river2sea whopper plopper. I love it.
