What is yalls most used universal size swim jig? I know with regular jigs the most common is a 3/8 oz

Hard to go wrong with 3/8s.

I'm debating between 3/8 and 1/4. There's only 1 3/8 left in the color I want so I hid it until I was sure of what size to get haha

I use 1/4oz 90% of the time but I'm also throwing them in cover/grass and in very shallow water that's 6 foot or less. I use 3/8 if I need to get down into the grass that's thick. A 1/4oz swim jig will get down and through grass much better than people think. 

Personally I use 1/4 oz Swim jig more then any other size, probally 90% of the time, with the remaining 10% being a 3/8 oz.  As for color, the color I do best with is a Purple/Green/Blue swimjig I make.  Oddly enough I catch many more bass on Bluegill colored swimjig, more then Shad

1/4 if I want to run it in the weeds, 3/8 if I am working weed edges or open water with it. They are cheap enough, get one of each and try them out and see which you like best. 

I pretty much only use a 1/4 oz

1/4 oz here too, 95% of the time.

5/16 on the northern style or bullet heads and 3\8 to 1\2 on the Cali style heads where I am fishing them deeper.

I don't fish them often but the 1/4oz is what I prefer when I do. It's just much easier to run over vegetation without fishing it too fast. 

Don't forget about impact of various trailers on a swim jig - you can make a 3/8th oz. swim jig run like a 1/4th oz. swim jig merely by changing out the trailer style (i.e. single tail grub or paddle tail to a Rage Craw , Paca Chunk , Super Speed Craw) .

I use both 3/8 oz and 1/4 oz depending on the situation. 

1/4 oz all the time. Like others have said, I fish mine mostly in shallow water, around grass and laydows.

1/4. I use to use 1/2oz but it was such overkill and would bury in weeds.

1/4 has smaller profile and slides through cover well and a trailer helps with casting distance.

I use 1/4 oz 100% of the time, mostly because I rarely fish anything deeper than 10 feet.

7/16 oz with craw trailers, 3/8 for paddle tail trailers. Typically fish them in eel grass in under 5 fow.

For me...........3/8's is the "do all" size if I could have one, but, I have choices, so I use them. Here is what I do:

 

1/4oz.....I use these from the bank out to 5-6' FOW, OR over the top of thick grass

 

3/8oz.....mid depth work, 5-10' FOW, and my go to size in shallow water when the water is still fairly cold BUT CLEAR, because even though the water is cold, if it's clear, it needs to be moved along at a decent clip so they don't get too good a peek at it, and the extra weight over the 1/4 oz size keeps it closer to the bottom a little better on a slightly faster retrieve speed which is the key it seems for me getting more bites in cold water.

 

1/2oz.....for fishing along deep weed lines in 8-12' FOW

 

I can adjust the rigging on my trailer for a little extra depth control. I usually use a simple single tail grub for a trailer, I rig it with the tail "curled up" if I want to keep the bait down, or the tail "curled down" for little lift when I want to keep the bait high. The lift or push effect is subtle, as the thin grub tail is not very bulky, but it is noticeable, and it works for me doing it this way, so I roll with it.

surprised a bit to see so many say 1/4.  i usually get 3/8, but may get a handful of 1/4 to gauge the difference...

I usually use a 3/8 jig.  If it gets hung up in the weeds, a quick jerk usually pops it right loose.

Go big or go home, 1/2 oz. is standard for me, sometimes 3/4 up, depends on situation and fish.

The above statement is very important to remember. I use to only fish 1/4oz jigs but I was fishing open water with a 4" single tailed grub. Now my main trailer is a Keitech fat impact so I went to the 3/8oz to keep the bait from rising too much.

 

As for colors I catch more fish on a white/shad colored bait but bigger ones on a bluegill color.

3/8 90 percent of the time ,Then 1/4.I like the Wisconsin style jig better.The thinner skirt seems to give more flare.
