What has been your best large bass lure of this late summer?

Featured Replies

I haven't had one superior big bass lure, but a few. I fish a lot of the berkley chigger craw,  so naturally that produces some big fish due to purely numbers of fish caught. However, I have caught  some big girls on the BPS 6" stick and the Zoom Magnum Finesse worm. Funny, also caught a decent 4+ girls on the ned. Not a lot of big hardbait fish this year.

Texas rigged 8" ribbon tail worm. Not sure of the brand I have had them for a long time one 1/2 is a dark brown and the other half is a light brown and they are covered in salt. The original packaging has long left the building.

Haven't really caught any pigs but considering its summer and it has produced some nice 3 to 4 pound lmb Ill call that a win.

I was catching them on the Pumpkinseed Zman ribbon tail worm but only had 5 and they got where they didn't want to stay up on the hook. I emailed Zman and they claim this color were no longer made. The only other tan/brown worm I had close was the ones I described.

Honestly they could be pink or what ever and I think they would work. I believe its more technique than color working right now.

The biggest bass I have caught this summer was on a 7" black and blue BPS ribbon tail t-rigged with a 1/4 oz weight in 8 fow. It was just shy of 21". Didn't get a weight.

A 3/8 oz jig with chigger craw trailer has wracked up some pretty good fish for me.

6" Roboworm green purple color nose hooked on a drop shot rig.

A 5" Zoom Shakey Head worm in various colors, either dropshot or weightless.

Definitely for me its a three way tie....

Strangely, the topwater frog. I've used various styles, though, to replace my Hula Poppers and, to an extent, walking lures.

The jig follows that, with the spinnerbait almost tying.

Fourth in line is the squarebill crankbait.

The river, however, shows the squarebill and spinnerbait going neck-in-neck, just under different conditions.

#1 - live target hollow body frog 65T in emerald.

#2 - venom tube t-rigged with an 1/8 bullet weight in roadkill.

For me its been the 1-, plopper and a fatboy.  And I noticed all 3 have been working for others. The baby one minus and fatboy are legendary , but I just this year picked up a plopper and I am amazed at the success I have had with it.

My biggest summer bass this year have mostly been caught on this silent Luck-E-Strike Rick Clunn Square Bill Crankbait on 6-8ft ledges.
