Best at what? Best handling? Best abrasion resistance? Best knot/tinsel strength? 

Best for stringing Xmas trees with popped popcorn? I often use stren or trilene xt in 8 lb. About $6 for 330 yds at Walmart. Good for fishing in light veg or open water from the bank.

ok thanks looking for strongest mono cause i don't like the way braid vibrates or moves in water

best meaning closets to fluorocarbon or braid.  i ike the way mono feels

I like P Line.  Haven't had the greatest luck with Trilene so I experimented and tried a few other kinds and found P Line to work the best.

Most 8 lb test mono is around .011 to .012 diamter, how about .011 diameter 11 lb test Sunline Diefer Armilo Nylon mono, not 8 lb but ranks up there in the superior mono category.

P-line Fluroclear...copolymer with fluorocarbon coating. Get abrasion resistance and some stretch (way less than mono but way more than braid) and get knot/tinsel strength and also the flurocarbon coating helps to disguise it in clear water.

Like Tom said the best Mono line is currently made by Sunline.   Defier Armilo for Mono is as close to FC line as you are going to get, but it is relatively expensive.  Sunline super natural is less expensive and still has great performance.    

There are some good reviews of both of these lines out there so do some research on  them.

YoZuri hybrid 8 lb rules.

If you want true mono, I have come to prefer Trilene XL.  I know the XT version is supposed to be 'tougher', but I like the limpness and performance of the XL.

I even use XL mono on my jig rod for throwing into timber (12lb) and it holds up fine.

Iron silk.  It has much less memory and stretch than regular mono resulting in farther casts, more sensitivity, and better hook sets on long casts.  It also seems to be more abrasion resistant and smother than most other monofiliments.

i used to use trilene XL a lot, never had any issues with it but fraying after a little use. but i tried sufix lines and like them better as they dont fray as much as the XL. sufix siege, sufix elite, and sufix promix are lines that i have used a lot the last 3 years or so in various sizes. definitely check out the sufix siege if nothing else...

I'm gonna pile on the accolades for YZ, too.  It's not my line of choice, but I think you'll find it to be best for what you want.  Izorline would be pretty close, as would Silverthread.  As with any post about line I make, obligatory recommendation for some KVD L&L conditioner.  Pretreat, and use after every trip.  Only take a couple squirts.

Yo-Zuri is a hybrid of mono (nylon) and FC jacket, so are calling this mono?

Well, that one word got my attention.  Curious  why you're obligated to recommend. They pay you to do that, or....?

 

I use Trilene XT..  I just stick to XT because I've been using it for 25 years now and it's been good to me.

I liked Trilene XL in the past but use YoZuri Hybrid for poppers, some cranks and carolina leaders instead now.

Not at all. I buy a bottle every time I'm in bass pro. I have four or five everywhere. It's a must have for me. It's one of those products that's cheap, says what it does, and does what it says. They used to be a site sponsor, but I don't recall ever getting a free bottle. Which is fine, it's worth it. 

I really dislike the " very best" threads.  It's so subjective is most cases.  The brand I select may be considered garbage by another. I guarantee you that someone has bought line that was on the shelf until the label was redesigned, they tied a crappy knot, had a rough spot on a guide insert, nicked their line on that surgically sharpened hook and so on.  The line gets the blame.

Try and find some consensus and consider that a starting point and develop confidence or don't and move on from their.  The brand I have confidence in has not been mentioned.  A brand that I have used and liked fairly well has.  That's in #8 test. There's nothing like getting just enough information to be thoroughly confused.

very helpful thanks.  i ordered some of the sun line 11 lb and will check it out this weekend

the brand i like is cajun line red cast. never had any problems with it, i bought some spider wire a while back and after breaking off on a fish and a snag that i couldve gotten with the other, instantly switched, 

keep in mind i use the 14 and 17 lb tests for my fishing. landed my 12.4 on this line brand.

That may be true in some cases, but if you read closely, many of the responses are based on years, sometimes decades of experience, and many, many spools worth of line.  I've tested and reviewed so many brands and types of lines it's dizzying, and yet I really only use three lines - mostly the same three for many years, save Tatsu, which replaced Invisx for fluoro use.  The "best of" threads really are "what's your favorite...," so, play along - what's your favorite?

Okay, J Franco my favorite is Sunline Super Natural. A line I have confidence in and have used for years is Yo Zuri Hybrid.  Twenty years ago I would have touted Trilene Big Game as the "best."  That was twenty years ago. I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade.  just share a perspective.

Thanks.  Haven't tried the Super Natural yet.  Always hearing positive reviews about it though.
