hard liquor is great, but as of late I've been more of a wine drinker than the hard stuff.  Lucky for me that liquor does not go bad.  I'd have a hard time drinking it all in my lifetime. 

As of late I've been more interested in Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir's.  Here's a few favorites.  For every day drinking it's hard to beat Hahn pinot.  I can buy a case for $120.  Sometimes a little less when on sale.

When your used to manishevitz, it's not tough to move up.

I'm not a big whine-o myself but I prefer Cabs or Pinot Noir.  If I want to go to sleep quick a couple glasses of Merlot does the trick. I had a REALLY good PN at a wedding recently and can't for the life of me remember what it was.  I'm not as in tune with wines as I am scotch/whisky so I'm here for the recommendations.  I don't drink white wines, only cook with them.

I'm not much of a white wine drinker myself, but Grgich Hills makes incredible chardonnay, as does Pahlmeyer and Jayson.  Meiomi is also a very good Pinot Noir, and not too expensive.  I'm literally surrounded by amazing vineyards north and south of me, so choices are abundant. 

Those of you who like the reds should grab a bottle of Malbec or Tempranillo. There's lots of them in the under $15 range.

Malbec, Merlot, Syrah, and "robust" red blends suit my tastes.  

Boones farm,  the blue one. 

Virginia has had quite the growth of wineries in the last few years and a few of them have some very nice offerings. Granted not quite the quality of  California and Washington state but very nice none the less. We are club members at one in particular that is very close and dog friendly. I believe they are the first bi-coastal winery in the US!

My wife and I did a mini self tour of 3 wineries in VA. Very nice wineries, terrific wine and great countryside. I did the same thing in upstate NY, cool places as well.

In my young Navy days I hung out in a joint that gave you two bottles of "Grannies Grapes" if you sunk the 8 ball on the break(pool). That stuff would make you throw up in technicolor. I still don't drink much wine except an occasion red wine that I know nothing about. I have noticed that wines seem to vary a great deal in alcohol content. I was a little surprised after reading labels.

I like a nice Shiraz. Yellow Tail or Little Penguin are decent brands.

For pinot noir or melot I like Bogle Vineyards

 

 

i cannot drink wine nor beer without an instant migraine....  liquor, no problem.  if there's no liquor available i'll settle for a water, soda or sweet tea.  i can't even finish a 12oz beer before i have a killer migraine.

the wife is all about the wine though.  we recently went to italy and spain and since we've been back she keeps talking about how good the wine was over there!

Does Zima count? it certainly isn't beer.

Sounds like an allergic reaction to the sulfites, they do evil things to me as well (stomach not head) 

If it's sulfites that are the problem, try organic wines they contain no added sulfites.

you could also try a non-drowsy allergy pill (Claritin or Allegra) before drinking.
