Are you noticing much of a difference using Tatsu versus Sunline Sniper for your leader connection to braid on your spinning rods? Just curious if I need to snag some Tatsu during the Black Friday sales.

I use P Line Fluorocarbon leader material that comes in 25 yard mini spools. The others are much more expensive and don't have the toughness it does. Tatsu is much better than Sniper as a main line, but it's expensive.

If you're going to spend that kind of money for leader material, why not get actual leader material?  It will be tougher and last longer.  I would also think it would be more sensitive.

I find Sniper to be lacking when it comes to abrasion resistance....And since you'd be using it for a leader, all the good qualities of Sniper aren't really in play.  Would not be my choice for leaders.  

If you set on spending the $$$, I'd pick AbrasX over either of those....But my real recommendation would be to just get a spool of leader FC or use leftovers from your main line FC's (this is what I do, Red Label mostly).

 

for leader material , you should be thinking Sunline Shooter ...

I exclusively use Tatsu for spooling reels, with that said I use pline for leaders because I honestly don't believe over 12 to 24 inches it makes that much of a difference in sensitivity, or managability.

I use Tatsu simply because I have residual left on several spools. However, for leader line I don't think the attributes of Tatsu really come into play.

i just re-read this and realized you were talking about a spinning setup , i use Sniper and Sx1 braid on my spinning set up also , for a leader ,Sniper is all you need .....

That's what I'm using too. 16 pound SX1 to 7 pound Sniper. It makes a great drop shot set up.

The best time to buy Tatsu is during the days before Christmas sale at TW. The last couple of years it goes on sale the first or second day for either 20% or 25% off. They announce a different product each day until the 25th of the month.

If you want all the benefits of a leader...use leader material, not mainline material, it's not the same stuff. There's a reason those 25yd spools of "leader material" are so wiry, they are very tough and abrasion resistant but lack the castability of the mainline fluorocarbons.

i use Sunline SX1 in 10lb. with a long leader of Sunline Sniper 6lb. on my spinning set up .

i think a lot of people are recommending a leader of very abrasion resistant  '' leader'' material , i really don't think you need that on a SPINNING set up . i totally would be for that if it was a casting set up where you are throwing lures into the nasty stuff ( rocks , brush , etc) i use my spinning set up for open water finesse ( drop shot , wacky rigging , weightless plastics , etc..) i   

I just don't understand why you guys would  use a leader when fishing in the "nasty stuff" spinning or other wise. Rock and/or wood being the exception.

Why shooter for leader ?

If I have to choose between the two, then Tatsu but I would buy a regular leader material like Seaguar Gold Label or Sunline FC leader (not used it).
