Although the first responses to Flippin’ weren’t too positive, it didn’t take long for anglers to realize its effectiveness. The technique was winning nearly all of the early tournaments in the west and even though anglers hated this form of tule dippin,’ what they didn’t realize was this form of fishing was way more than just a technique.

I  read it all , good stuff . I would like to spend some time watching those guys and how they approach cover . Of interest to me is how would they approach a lay-down with lots of branches or brush pile . Would they go to the heart first or start outside and work their way in ?

I noticed Klein left out the fact his Weapon jig also had another innovative feature...double rattles biult in.

Good to read about the anglers you watched become top pro's. I keep saying flipping isn't pitching, it's a precision presentation.

They are different but similar . Pitching is a precision presentation too . 

That was a good read. I had a guy I worked with that swore by the weapon jig and said he used to tear them up on it. He didn't fish much anymore so he have me the rest of the jigs he had. I've used them a few times and done alright I need to try flipping them though.

I bought the VHS tape called Flippin With Dee Thomas about 33 or 34 years ago. I bought a Fenwick telescopic Dee Thomas Special, threw an Ambassadeur 5000 on it and hit the slough. I caught my first flippin fish, a whopping 13 inches but that was a special beginning.  I still have the combo.  I love the history of this sport.  Thanks A-jay.
