Just stop asking questions and get the Champion 734C ! 

I know others disagree, but I feel the fury line performs almost identically when compared to the champ. QPR on the fury can’t be beat. All this said, I say go fury 704 or 734

I felt both in hand, the Champ XP feels way more balanced and alot lighter.

It’s my first bait casting set up and I usually only bank fish so I’m trying to figure out what the best all purpose rod would be since I have only been using a light power spinning and medium power spinning so far

The 3 and 4 powers in the Sierra and Champion lines can be fished with just about anything. The 733 will cast those weights a little better and the 734 will have a little more hook setting power. You'll barely notice the weight difference between the two rods if that's what you're worried about it, it will only be a few grams.

 

A little warning though, you will always hear how good the 734 is in the series and it could cause some people to have second thoughts if they didn't get it. It's definitely one of the top Dobyns model, if not the top.

I guess they don’t have the Sierra 734c in stock anymore so it’s either the 733 or 734 champion. Which would you go with for the baits I listed? I’m so torn between these 2 models. I have a Falcon Bucoo SR MH 1/4-3/4oz 6’8” casting rod now if that helps to rule something out

Do you have experience with a DC764cb?  Seems like a much faster tip than I was anticipating for the mod-fast rating.  Hopefully to get it on the water sooner than later.

No, I have the 704cb Glass and just bought a 634cb grahpite. I thought the same thing though about the 705cb Glass Fast Action at first, but when I finally caught fish with it, the tip loaded really good and haven't lost a fish on it yet. I have read similar experiences also about how the rod doesn't seem soft enough until a fish is on. I think it's about perfect, because it allows you to load up on the cast better. Now, the 704 glass is a different story, completely different from the 705 Glass, it has a lot slower tip with a lot more noticeable parabolic bend. I'm hoping this 634cb graphite is somewhere in between, so I can use it for jerkbaits from a kayak and bank. I haven't used a DC graphite rod yet, but I hear the 4 power is totally different from the 4 power glass, faster with a little more power.

I heard back from Gary Dobyns on another forum the below is his answer. 
 

“

The 734C would be the better choice for swim jigs. You need a bit of power in a jig rod. The 1/8-1/4 Texas rigs could use the 733C. It'll have a bit too much power for casting a 1/8 oz but will work great with a 1/4 oz. THX!! Gary D.

 

The 733C will handle 1/4 and 3/8 rattle baits. I think for Chatterbaits that a 4 power is better, we do have some anglers wanting a softer power for these baits. Maybe 20%. 80% would want a 4 power or even heavier. As far as TX rigs you must also think about the bait weight. Most generally I'd say anything 3/8 and above would be a 4 power territory. THX!!”

Trying to resurrect this thread because Dobyns Sierra rods are on sale on TW. Thinking of the 734 or even better the 704 since I am fishing out of a kayak. Have you (or anyone) thrown small frogs and/or toads on the 734 in any of the Dobyns lineups? Will eventually get a frog-specific rod but not to start with. Gary Dobyns recommended the 734 to me in an email, as an all-around rod, but said he never recommends a 4 power for frogging. But he likely throws frogs in much heavier cover than me. I’ll be hitting weed lines and light Lilly pads mostly.

The 4 powered Dobyns aren’t ideal for frogging but it will work if need be.  I don’t think you will be disappointed at all in a 734 Sierra.  I have 2 of them.

Do you think the action/tip of the 704 is significantly different than the 734? I’ve fished 7’ rods out of the kayak and they’re fine. A bit worried the extra length might be an issue; but not sure, since I’ve never thrown one that long (from a kayak at least).

You will be fine with the 704 as well.  Dobyns rods are pretty consistent no matter the length.
