I’m new to fishing and was Wondering what Best type of Hook and hook size for Zoom Ultravibe Speed Worm would be. I’ve heard 2/0-3/0 Offset shank Round bend but I’ve also heard the same size in a EWG works as well. I’m just looking for the best option that will give me the best chance of booking a fish. Thanks!

4/0 skip gap for regular size, 5/0 Gammy ewg for the magnum.

I agree with most of the other posts. Use a 2/0-3/0 offset shank round bend hook. I started using them in a 2/0 for Bay Brush Hogs instead of EWG hooks. My hook up ratio has improved a lot since I changed. I still use an EWG or Skip Gap hook for some soft plastics. Overall the offset shank round bend is a better choice when the plastic is not too thick.

4/0 Gamakatsu Offset Round Bend is what I use. EWG will work as well, but I think you hook up better with the Offset Round Bend

I sometimes use a 1.0  on a Manns 6 inch jelly worm  or  other skinny worm  .

I use 3/0 wide gap Gammys or just straight shank flipping trokar hooks. 

I use the 3/0 ewg Gammies too. My best day for numbers this year              ( 32) was using these hooks and the speed worms. I didn’t miss very many that bit.

I haven’t used the round shank hooks in years because it seem d like my hookup % was lower... but it was mostly using Culprit worms then.

Welcome to plastic worm hook confushion. 

I have only been using soft plastic worms for 60 years and reading the replies on this subject confuses me. 

Zoom speed worm is simply a soft plastic worm with a tail design to be retrieved swimming at faster speeds. The front of the speed worm isn't any different then any other worm the same diameter. Soft plastic worm hook size should be selected based on the worm diameter. 

3/0 for 6" UV worm of any style worm hook you prefer will work.

My choice for this worm is Owner Twist Lock Light.

I've been using 3/0 EWG gammies too.

 

I ignored this worm for far too long. Picked some up a year ago or so for the first time, and they quickly became a favorite choice for late-summer vegetation.  

Whatever you use for a senko I’m sure is fine. 3/0 or 4/0 ewg here.

Catt, I've tried most of the different hook styles out there. A few years ago I went back to standard straight shank hooks. My catch rate has improved too.

I sometimes think many people use too large of a hook. I like 1/0 hooks for slim worms too. Mann's, Roboworm, etc. I feel.like I still hook and land as many or more fish than when I used larger hooks also

Agree 100% , and I still do the same Catt. It's worked well for me for too long.

Ok so what brand and size of straight shank do you prefer. I bought some mustads that were listed as 3/0 but the gap seemed quite slim compared to others that I have seen.

They live up north where we use light wire hooks and 8lb. test line to catch 3lb.-5lb. bass. 

For that worm I use a 3/0 round bend offset. I don't like EWG hooks for fishing worms, but that's a preference thing more than anything I can point to that says they're better.

Depends on which Mustad hook ya bought.

 

I prefer Mustad's older Denny Brauer Flipping Hook which has a longer shank than the newer ones.

I might have missed it but I didn’t see anyone else mention the setups that I’ve used a good bit lately and had some relatively solid success. Now obviously if you’re going for a Texas rig or something then I use a straight shank Berkley Fusion 3/0 or 4/0 if it’s the magnum size worm. But I’ve had a whole lot of success using an Owner 3/16oz keel weighted swimbait screwlock hook. I’ve swam it like a swimbait and also I’ve kind of worked it like a fluke. Both Junebug red and junebug have worked well for me
