What do you guys typically use for lipless cranks? I was originally thinking of using my squarebill setup of a 7ft. medium/moderate Veritas Winch 2.0 and a Daiwa Fuego CT 6.3:1 with 12lb. Seaguar Abrazx but now I'm leaning more toward my Dobyn's Fury 734C which right now has a 7.3:1 Curado I spooled with 17lb. Sunline Armilo Defier on it but I'm wondering if I should use heavier fluorocarbon like maybe a 15lb. or more instead?

i like 12 pound mono for lipless crankbaits. I use Sufix Siege. I like the bit of stretch that mono gives. and it casts very well. 

1/2 and under, I use 10# YZH on 7'MF.

 

Over 1/2, I use 12# YZH on 7'4" cranking rod

Okay, so would my setup with my Dobyn's be adequate? I know the Sunline is 17lb but it's a thin diameter line. I would be throwing mostly 1/2oz. with an occasional 3/4oz.

Try it.    Nobody can say if its adequate....except you.     Lipless are a different animal and the 'rules' for other lures don't necessarily appy....except having enough play in the rod/line to keep from losing hooked fish.  So much depends on your environment and how you will use them.

-do you need super sensitivity for work around wood and grass?

-do you need casting distance first and foremost?

-do you want versatility to work from 1/4 to 3/4 on same rod/line?

-are you yo-yo-ing off a rocky bottom, or ripping through shallow grass?

 

Use what you got....evaluate what you like and don't like about it...and then let the bait monkey tell you when it's inadequate

I'd throw it on the heaviest mono that you feel like throwing for lipless crankbaits. 

10 or 12 lb YZH depending on the rod and location.

Well, it's Fall here in the North so the grass is dying down. I'd more think around wood/timber laydowns and just burning it through the water with occasional yo-yo's. I would prefer to use just one rod and have the ability to use both 1/2oz., 5/8oz. lures. I'll experiment with my Dobyn's setup and see, if I don't have any luck maybe I'll switch out to my regular crankbait setup.

20lb braid with a leader

15 lb mono for 1/2 ounce lipless baits, and 10 lb mono for 1/4 ounce lipless baits. 

I use 15 lb fluoro for lipless cranks 

12-15 pound test mono 

I fish mine on 15lb Big Game.

The sunline is excellent line , it will work just fine.

I switched to Stren mono this year, I'm very impressed with it. I usually use 12-14 lb.  I've tried Berkley, Suffix, McCoy. So far I'm liking the Stren mono, I feel it is a smoother line compared to many others I've tried. 1000yd spool of Stren is about $22.

10# Yo-Zuri Hybrid

12-15 for me.

1/4 oz. - 6 - 8 lb. mono

1/2 oz. - 10 lb. mono

3/4 - 1 oz. - 12- 14 lb. mono
