Bearly Fishing

Featured Replies

Okay, got to admit...I would have pooped my pants and ran screaming like a little girl if I had turned around...of course if I had done that I would probably be dead...lol.

I think I would have needed CPR.

Which one is worst, a bear or crocodile?

I’m guessing that bear wasn’t too hungry.

I've actually seen bears swimming across lakes in N. Calif., so being on the water is no guarantee that you won't run into them!

I've also seen videos and pictures of guys fishing up in Alaska with bears all around them fishing the same water. I don't think a fish would be worth the trouble!

When we were 15 or 16 me and my cousin went into the woods to smoke cigarettes. After we finished our cigarettes and were sitting on a log just hanging out in the middle of nowhere, we see a huge bear approaching us while nosing around in the ground like he was looking for something very specific. When he was about 7 or 8 feet away, he lifted up his nose and took a few sniffs in the air at us, then put his head back down like we weren’t a threat and continued on his way. As soon as he was gone we took off. The scary thing was, he was completely silent. There was no leaves rustling, no twigs snapping, nothing. And then he just completely disappeared into the woods. Amazing for something that big.

Same with the bears in Nor Cal. Once saw a mountian lion as well. Always important to know whats going on around you.

Bear, a crocodile at least has the common decency to kill you before they eat you. Bears will start eating you before you die. More than one bear attack victim has been found with large portions of their bodies consumed but still alive ? The odds of a crocodile breaking down a door or a cabin or tearing up a tent to get at the person inside is pretty slim while bears have done it plenty of times.

Bears are terrifying and a large part of why I have no interest in ever visiting places they live.

So maybe we should fill the moat with bears?

You really have no interest in visiting America's Last Frontier, Alaska? I've always wanted to go there for as long as i can remember...it just looks so amazingly beautiful. I'd love to see the Northern Light's up close :D

Something similar happened to me last summer while fly fishing the Roaring Fork in Colorado. Luckily it was a black bear and he was only interested in reaching his favorite back scratching tree which we were fishing next to. But due to the terrain we were trapped and it was a little unnerving.

It would keep me out for sure.

I might be able to get myself to go up there to fish for Halibut and Ling cod, but like a car dealership I've got 0% interest in hiking into any salmon streams or chasing greyling or anything like that could potentially make me any part of the food chain other than the top.
