megabass 110 vs 110+1 need both?

Featured Replies

I have been out the last two trips and fished mostly my 110+1 sexy shad.  Been really impressed with it and have caught 4 2.5lb+ bass in 35-45 degree water.  Unfortunately, I lost my lure when the line snapped back and snapped off the lure.  I believe the lure had a crack in it bc I couldn't find it anywhere and I was thinking it would be floating.

So here I am, about to order another 110+1.  I'm somewhat new to bass fishing and am still building my inventory.  I watched the jerkbait underwater video matt did, and was really impressed with the 110+1.  So that was my first, serious jerkbait purchase.  So now I'm looking to get a replacement, and I thought while I'm at it, I will go ahead and get a 110 as well.  My question is:  do I need a 110 or will a 110+1 do the job just as well?  I know the 110+1 is meant to go deeper, but didn't know if was that big of a difference.  I'm fine getting it...but just thought I would get everyone's thoughts before I go refinance my house so that I can afford these megabass jerkbaits lol. Thanks for your thoughts. bonus points if you share your favorite 110(+1) color. Thanks

The bait monkey only has one answer to questions of these sorts....

m0Ar BaItZ!

They hit different depths so I would go with a yes.  I have both and the +2.

Sexy Shad is my best producing.

Thanks! I didn’t realize there were two sexy shad colors. Which did you go with? Megabass sexy shad or gp sexy shad?  And I assume you just use the 110 most of the year and then use the 110+1 when temps fall? Thanks

The differences between the 110,110+1 & the 120+2 are all depth related. The +1 runs approximately 3 feet deeper than the 110. The +2 runs 6 feet deeper than the regular. So you need all three to cover greater depths depending what type of water you are fishing. The +2 will get you down around 15’ with the right line diameter.

NEED has nothing to do with it!

Mortgage/HELOC rates, at least here in MA, aren’t bad at all!

As previously mentioned, it's about fishing different levels of the water column effectively.  In some situations the bass are willing and able to go a ways to get a bait so presenting these baits right in their grill then may not be necessary. Others times it's the only way to get bit.

Finally the 110+1 in GP perch has been killer for me.

teh I guess what I was thinking is, can you work the 110+1 in a way (not reel down to depth) so that it stays at the level of a 110?  When you cast, if you don’t reel down and just start working the bait...will it stay at that 3-5 ft range? Or will it always go deeper?
sounds like I need to get both...but I was just checking to see what y’all thought. That 110+1 has been on fire for me too

MB Sexy Shad.  And if you think the bass won't suspend off structure in deeper water prior to the cold your missing out on some big fish. I catch some nice bass fishing drop offs where the bass suspend right above the thermocline when the sun is high in the sky. I use both throughout the year.  I just start out opposite.  Colder water I start deeper then work shallow as the water warms from the sun.  Warm water I start shallow and go deeper as the sun comes up. Of course clouds, wind, air temp, etc can change all that!  LOL

No matter what if you didnt already learn. Always buy more than one of the same bait so if you lose it your not screwed for the rest of the day.

I am going to second this.  If a bait is out of your price range, buy a cheaper one and get 2.  Or wait until you can buy at least 2 of said bait.  Nothing is worse than being on a hot bite only to lose the lure that was working...

I have all three models to cover up to 15 feet deep, the best color for me are the perch renditions. I have them in Tennessee Shad as well.  Excellent lures and catch everything!  They also work trolling believe it or not.

I fish jerkbaits on 6’10” medium fast rod, 7.x:1 gear ratio reel and 10lb flouro. Flouro helps keep the baits down in the water column, it has less stretch than mono (this imparts better action to the jerkbait - starting and stopping), and is less visible.  Not sure how much difference the latter makes because the jerkbait is a reaction bait.

To echo the sentiments above, yes.....

IMHO they are worth it!  All 3 are top producers

well dang, I went from asking if I could get away with buying just one...to now thinking I need all three :) Wonder how the used kidney market is going...looks like I'll be selling on of mine ha

I use all three, 110, 110+1 and the 110+2.  I have caught fish with all three.  When to use which one, is up to you.  For me, I find it depends on the lake and the depth near the bank.  Also, the water temp can be factor.  One other thing, for the +2 the brighter colors (chartreuse black, sexy shad, and perch) seem to produce better.

Ok thanks!  Thinking of getting all three in sexy shad...dumb idea?  I guess since I've caught several lately on the 110+1 sexy shad...I have a lot of confidence in it. color recommendations?  I don't really want to buy more than 3 right now...spending $75 (even though I can afford it) on three lures...is a lot.  Not to mention I'm planning to buy a reel and rod soon as well.  I try to keep a low profile with the wife...for the most part ha

Anyone have all three of these in the same color?  Or should I switch it up?  Probably going to put an order in today

I would stick with the same color.  Then you know more or less if it's the color or depth that they are hitting.

Jerkbaits are in my top 5 and Megabass makes the best in my opinion.

BUT take a look at Luck E strike for the frugal spender.

I use floating, sinking and suspending religiously year around.
