Line type for Buzzbaits

Featured Replies

With buzzers, you can use whatever type of line you prefer as long as there's some flex or give in your equipment.

I like mono for all topwater applications, but I go heavy (for up here), 17lb. or 20lb. which doesn't have much give, but it's paired to a MH Mod/Fast rod. There's more than enough give there to allow a fish to get it into its mouth, but not so much that I can't bury that hook.

The reason a lot of guys using braid with a MH/F rod like a trailer hook is because, unless the fish crushes that bait, that front hook never gets into their mouth.

I use 12 to 15lb mono for buzzbaits.

17lb XL mono plus for spinnerbaits

50lb sufix 832 on one spool and 17 lb mono on the other, have used and caught fish with buzz baits on floro but not recommended

If you use braid as a main line then a 7' MH Moderate action will allow bass to get a buzz bait in their mouth good and keep them buttoned up better afterwards . Pro's seem to use this strategy in using the same rod for buzz bait , chatterbait & spinner bait .

15 lb big game.

15lb big game for me.

But I'm not really convinced braid vs. mono actually matters much in this case as far as "give" is concerned. The rod should bend before any real differences in line stretch come into play.  Practical advantages of braid over mono have more to do with limpness, strength, resistance to damage around vegetation, and longevity, rather than the lack of stretch itself (at least most of the time)

I think anglers in general greatly overintepret every missed hook-up, lost fish, and failed landing they have, convincing themselves too quickly, based on too-little evidence and no systematic control comparisons, that it must have something to do with their gear. So they change things around until they succeed, and decide that was the thing that did it. But virtually everything that happens while fishing is also fuel for superstition, and it can be very hard to tell the difference.

I am with Bluebasser86 on this I use Gamma Copoly 14 lb breaking strength 23.5 lb. with very good abrasion resistance. I use this line wiith spinnerbaits too.
