That’s a trophy for a flying squirrel. Skunks are bad dudes when cornered, did you survive? How did the end play out?

I poked him with everything I could find in the garage, he didn’t much care and certainly didn’t move. I set a trap right up against his face, will report back on the outcome. I told the person to just leave their garage door open all night. They said “well we had to close it at 10……….” And my reply was “what, were you afraid a skunk might walk in??!!!” Poor little feller chewed an entire baseboard trying to get out

You can’t see it in the photo but there’s a hole chewed by a squirrel where the siding meets the soffit near the satellite dish

CDB02-E2-A-1-C9-D-41-B0-B211-FDA8-D6-D9-

I set this trap yesterday and you can’t see it but the nursing adult female squirrel is in there

here she is up close. As I was getting that trap down I could hear another one running through the soffit. After I got my ladder loaded up, I sat in the truck for a second and watched that hole And squirrel number to poked his head out so I reset some more traps

I can’t recall if I already mentioned this if so excuse my bad memory but I’ve had squirrels (I assume) freeze to death in live traps over night with temps in upper 30’s lower 40’s. Curled up in a lil ball as if asleep. Is this a thing and do you ever provide any pine straw or bedding for critters you intend to release? I’d never thought a squirrel would freeze to death in upper 30’s lower 40’s but I guess the lack in insulation due to the cold cage steel. Thoughts?

We always wrap a grocery bag on all the squirrel traps in the winter inside of that tarp you can see on the photo. A cold rain can still get em but normally that adds some insulation. Also sometimes they are going to die in a live trap just from banging around in there like crazy and exhausting themselves. We have provided bedding (just cut a strip off a towel and toss it in there) on nights where it’s predicted to be down below 20

A little squirrel exclusion from yesterday (another perfect cut)

And a squirrel nest selfie from today, fairly elaborate nest where one roof overlaps another

There was only a single bat at this house today, so I just plucked it out with a stick and put it on a tree

Then we put painted 1/4” wire mesh on all the vents

So I’m up on the roof resetting the trap from last week where I caught an adult female squirrel but then heard more in the soffit. Well look who was watching me set the trap

Be fun put him a tiny snare there ?

Now that is a legal set!!! But the squirrel would probably destroy the louvers while snared . Setting inside the “burrow” is fair game for almost anything
