I've caught quite a few bass on the Bitsy Bug jig over the years. This jig, and a Zoom critter craw trailer have worked well in early spring. Best color for us has been blk/blue, and some of the craw colors also. The Bitsy Flip jig has a stronger hook, and both have worked depending on what tackle we're fishing. Anyone else fishing this jig? What trailers are you using?

NDYakAngler destroys river smallies on this jig in Minnesota. 20"+ regularly. I fish them in ponds sometimes and they do really well. I use Baby Rage Craws and TRD CrawZ as trailers. 3/16oz is my normal size. 

I pour jigs and still buy Bitsy Bugs, they are such a good jig for $1.79 I don't even bother trying to do better anymore.

 

I like Hula grubs and Guido bugs for trailers.

I use these as my finesse jigs but they're a little pricier. For some reason, the bitsy bug is hard to find in tackle shops around here. 

Finesse jigs? I'm using a Rage Tail Baby Bug. 

I use the Bitsy Bug for both largemouth and especially river smallmouths . I'm not real picky on trailers.  Usually some sort of craw or a piece of a stick worm .

Bitsy Flip or bug  and Yum Wooly Bug or Gambler little Otter that’s cut down about 3/8” is a catching machine. I use them all year long.

3/16 and 1/4 oz

Bitsy flip with a Zoom super chunk or a large salty chunk, and a bug with a super chunk jr., or a small salty chunk.  I've also used tubes, baby brush hogs, plastic worms, and senko type baits for trailers.

I like using a zoom 3” double tail grub as a trailer lots of good movement. 

Bitsy bug is seriously one of the best jigs ever made, its the jig that got me started jig fishing. Such an effective bait for so little. My favorite trailer is a strike king rage menace with about a half inch bit off. Favorite is a 1/4 oz flip in green pumpkin craw

First jig fish, and first bass over 5 was a bitsy bleeding jig, with a maxscent chunk trailer in late winter. 

I have a couple and I have Ned TRDs as trailers.  I have used baby Pit bosses too.

I pour my own that is very similar so I can do my own hook choice and color patterns. I like a YUM Craw Papi for a trailer.

That’s about the only jig I use. Because it is small. I have a real phobia about big baits. But in my old age over the last few years I have stepped things up to some bigger baits. I did pick up over the winter a few of the Iaconelli micro jigs for the same reason small in size. 
 

I also mess with the Zoom stuff for trailers. What I find that works for me is I take a 4” Curly Tail worm, bite off part of the body and get the length I want to cover the hook under the skirt and fish just that soft curly tail. 
 

I fish the smaller sized SK buzzbaits also (same phobia) and use the same CT trailer on them. 

I make my own version but it is a good jig. That is the jig that I believe someone new to jigs should start with. 

I fish a bitsy bug regularly with quite a but of success. Craw papi is the trailer I use the most. I've started using a rage Ned bug though.

What is the difference between the Bitsy Bug and the Bitsy Flip?  I looked, and it seemed like it was the line tie and beefier hook and weed guard.  Is there a big difference in the hook and weed guard?   How about hook size?  It also looks like the flip comes in heavier sizes, but still a smaller profile?  I am going to pick up a few of these to use as a second jig rod.  I think I will throw this for finicky fishing days as well as when I have to fish behind someone.  A little more subtle to hopefully grab some missed fish.

Your correct. The Flip has a stronger hook. It may come in heavier sizes also. 

I use one all the time here in the creek. I've only ever used a baby rage craw.

Wow, no joke. At $1.79 with a skirt that's a deal. Since no one's said otherwise I assume the Strike King quality is there too. How'd I miss these?

Love to see it. I lost all of my skirt material in a garage fire or else I'd make little Arkys. 

 

Fortunately, the molds were at my house (fire at my dad's) so they survived. 

Id also opt for a boss finesse flip or siebert outdoors sniper jig...both reasonably priced especially if you make your own skirts

Yes I love this lure. I've fished for only 3 seasons now and was never very confident in fishing the skirted jigs. Last season I had good results on a 3.5 inch paddletail worm on a simple light wire jig head (ball with eyes), and towards the end of the season decided to put it on a Bitsy Bug instead. Right away, it was very effective. I used it solely as a swim jig, usually starting at or near the bottom and swimming it up with a slow, steady retrieve back to the boat. Occasional pauses and twitches. In shallow water I'd let it fall about halfway down but from there the retrieve was the same.

 

Now it's my go-to on the light/spinning setup. If the fish aren't responding I'll fall back to the paddletail on the regular non-Bitsy jig head. 

 

I used to use the bitsy but switched to the Siebert Dredge Arky 1/8.  The hook is 100xs better and the colors are great.   Bitsy bug has limited colors.
