Last Reel Ever - The One.....

Featured Replies

  • Super User

This has been brought a couple of times but cabin fever is setting in again and thought why not......

If you were going to buy your last reel ever and money was no object, what would you buy, why and what would you use it for?  Would you be completing an arsenal, buying one for a specific purpose, or just wanted this one reel for the fun of it?

I keep asking myself this question and the problem for me is choosing.  I have a few on my mind but can't decide as of yet.  Maybe with some of your thoughts, I might come to a conclusion.

I already did.  I have two Curado 100B's and they are used for everything under the sun.  Just change the line accordingly.  Fifteen years old and going strong.  As I recall they were $130 each.  Next

I must stop.    I’ve bought about 15 new Daiwas since December. I’m going to sell a couple probably. I don’t need 6 Tatula 100. Or 4 60th anniversary reels. Darn holiday sales.   I

For me it would be the Shimano Tranx 300a (5.8:1) to use with .75 to 2 oz. lures, fishing for bass in waters that also harbor pike and musky. I'd just like to see how it would perform vs. what I have now.     jj

Well...........we all know it wouldn't be our last reel.  :D   Right now I want a Tatula Elite. I am curious if it will outcast every other reel I own...which is already a few too many.  Reviews on TW say it is also a very smooth reel.  This reel would be for the fun of it.

Speaking of buying new reels...I've done very well this year.  I've only bought one this winter.  A Bantam MGL I got at a very good price.  Can't say the same about rods.  :rofl_red:

EDIT:  Cabin fever definitely has its drawbacks.

I always wanted a Calcutta 50B and waited too long and they went out of production. With a hawgtech handle, carbon drag washers and boca bearings added, would be fun on a nice 2 power Loomis rod for poppers and finesse stuff... or amazing on a bronzeback smr702C TW which I also waited too long on...

That one looks in great shape.  Have to be careful on ebay.  Look the pictures over and hope they are pictures of the actual reel being sold.  I have seen reels rated as being in excellent condition that looked like they had been dragged behind the boat....while it was being towed down the highway.

Ugh she’s a beauty alright but would be a fortune by the time it landed here in Canada.  I keep looking for someone selling one that doesn’t know how valuable they are.  Missed one a couple years ago hoping another comes along

I bought a 100B on e-bay several years ago and gave it some TLC: new gear set (probably unnecessary) fresh spool bearings, carbontex drag, 90mm aftermarket handle, and a Chronarch 50 Mg spool. Have considered selling it but I know I would have seller's remorse the rest of my life. They are very special reels.

If money were no object, a spruced up Zillion SV 100mm Hawgtech handle, super tuned, and boca bearings.

I just checked how much a 2lb box DHL would cost from my place to a Thunder Bay address within the company I work for> $95 USD.  That's insane.

I have mine already. My 19' Antares. Best reel that I've owned.

This one was on my list about 10min ago and I just crossed it off.  New $285 shipped.... I couldn't pass it up at that price.  It will be here Thursday......  The monkey always wins.

Where did you find it for that price?

Ebay.  I was watching this for awhile. I sent the guy an offer and he accepted. I hope it is the real thing.  He had thousands of reviews and 99%.  We will see.

My reels - Antares DC and Steez from 2006 do exactly the same thing my reels from 2019 and 2020 do. I still use my Antares DC / Steez from back then as my main reels.

My original steez is still my main reel.  One could say my EDC

Scorpion 200I HG or Exsence DC

If I knew it was going to be my last one ever I would splurge and buy a reel I’ve been drooling over, but could never justify purchasing. That would be the Daiwa Steez SV TWS.
