What is the best method or tools you use to sharpen hooks? I have a lifetimes collection of spinnerbaits and buzzbaits that need to be made great again.

Besides replacing on smaller treble hooks have you found a tool and method to bring them back?

Trailer hooks work well for spinnerbaits and buzzzzzzzbaits 

I use a diamond file from a leatherman multi tool . It works great . Light strokes . Make sure to sharpen from point toward the bend , not the opposite . That makes a stronger point . 

 I've been using an older model of this one for years.

If I can't get the point on any type of single hooks bait or soft plastics hook I need with this one - I replace it.

I usually don't sharpen trebles except to do minimal point touch up.

Trebles that wear get replaced often. 

 

There are a few different versions including & double sided jobs with various grit stones.

I'd forgot about the diamond sharpeners I did use one years ago during a trip on jigging spoons and it worked great. Adding that to my need get list

 

anybody remember the electric sharpeners? Might have been Mister Twister branded. I always wanted one those but never happened.

I'm all about them trailer hooks! Shoot, my trailer hooks trailer hook even has a trailer hook! But they dull too ?

Which trailer hook do you guys use on buzzbaits and spinnerbaits and why are you sweet on that one?

for on water use I just use one of these...have had somewhere around 25 years.

I have a couple of old small sharpeners with a groove in them for us sight challenged old farts. Couldn't use flat or round ones even with cheaters on, unless sharpening a knife. They do in a pinch, but are not the greatest. Is there something out there in this type that would work well? 

Something like this is the best I have found so far. its a little rusty but, still works great .  Double sided and may have been under 5 bucks. Gets bigger hooks sticky sharp. Hooks smaller than size #8 are a little tricky though 
 

  I was in scouts and never had the knack for sharpening knives.  I bought a work sharp knife sharpener for that. So not all hook sharpening tools work for me and this does.  I keep in my tackle bag 

I am fundamentally and ideologically opposed to sharpening hooks. It’s best to get new high quality hooks.

 got the rapala, set of sharper and cutter, I used it only couple times, you can find tons of YouTube clips about it, but what I found out later, is the hooks today they are very sharp and sticky and really you don't need to sharpening them anymore. basically any file will do the job, one of the best option also very cheap is nail file which has two different side.

I have that same sharpener (except with a yellow handle) somewhere around here.

I run the yellow handle one too.  Been using that style for about 15 years now.

What's important is owning one and using it frequently.
