My largest buck so far

Way north bass guy

Recommended Posts

With the boat put away for the season, I’ve spent a few days in the woods the last couple weeks looking for a buck. This morning, I was able to sneak up on this bruiser, bedded down with a doe. When he turned his head and I saw the crown on top, I knew he was the one!

Hit him once as he got up, and tracked him about  a mile across a huge bog, where he was trying to sneak along the shore of a lake. After about a 5 hour drag out of the bush, he’s hanging in the shed and I’m gonna enjoy some fresh venison steaks after going a couple years without!

You drug that thing out of the bush for 5 hours?!  Holy cow.  Are you the iron man?  I've drug deer out of swampy country for 200 yards and even that sucked.

This is the buck I got last Wed morning.  We got 4 inches of fresh snow Tuesday night.  I didn't realize it was as big as it was until I walked up to it.  It has a 20.5 inch inside spread and 4 inch diameter bases.  Its the second biggest buck I've ever shot.  I gave away the meat on that old leathery buck and shot a small corn fed doe the next day with a bonus tag instead that's going in my freezer.

Wow Way north that's a nice trophy, thats a cool forked G-2! 5 hour drag :( been a few years since I took part in one of those lonnnng drags :)

Gimiurs I second the corn fed doe choice myself. Thats a nice wide rack on him! I wouldn't have given away the backstraps and tenderloin :) My son and I both shot does this year, coyotes in our area so bad they have really effected the deer population. Few does with lambs this year (thats what they call yearlings up here), coyotes have eat most of them. Deer cam has been out all fall and I get wayyy more coyotes than deer pics.

Good Hunting and Congrats to all!

Circling back on this as I just completed an antler mounting kit from the buck I shot in November.  I also put the 8 pointer I shot in 2006 in the photo for size reference (top).  I have a small plaque that I'm waiting on engraving for and its going to read "Pandemic Buck Nov 11, 2020"

Those look nice. I mounted my big guy up on the fireplace, it’s about the only place that’s in an area where someone won’t poke their eyes out ?, and it looks decent up there.

Thanks. Built it myself. That’s my day job, I’m a fourth generation stonemason.

You clearly do nice work.

How did you attach them to the stone?

Thanks. There’s two hook eyes drilled and screwed into the mortar joint between two stones, then I drilled a couple holes in the skull and wired it in place. Makes a great mitten and glove drier in the winter too ?

Sometimes you shoot a buck that’s pretty big but not spectacular. In my case, I think that was true. I’ve got a bigger, taller one with a full shoulder mount. This one is my second biggest buck but I felt it’s rare enough and nice enough to at least do something with the antlers like you or I did, but not quite worth spending 400 bucks on for another full shoulder mount.

Kinda like catching a really big bass, but not a PB that you already have a mount or replica of.

Hope everyone does good this fall, for me I take what comes and remain thankful that I still got the health and strength to hunt and tree climb! Leaving right now to lug a stand in where I hunt....then tonight Son and I will take his stand back in about 3/4 mile away. We're eating the last of our deer from 2020 season.
