Shimano DC Models

Featured Replies

I love the sound of the DC model.  I want to try one.  Right now I have some Zillion SV and Steez SV Reels.  So I have a few questions

1) Anyone have both, how do they compare?

2) What are the differences of the DC models? I see a Curado DC, an SLX DC, and a Metanium DC?

3) Do they all make that sound?

  • Super User

1) Don't have both

2) A lot of differences

3) Yes

Another question I've wondered about - Does any other manufacturer make a DC equivalent, where the braking is controlled digitally by (as I understand it) a chip system powered by the inertia of the cast?

None, only Shimano. I have all DC reels(almost all), ill tell you which one is my best.

First place Antares DC MD(best Cast Best Performance)

second Metanium DC

Third SLX(best for money)

Forth Curado

I am ordering conquest DC in just few days.

Man I love that sound.

I like smaller reels overall.  How does the size compare between metanium DC and Antares DC?

I have a steez SV which I love, wondering if I should switch?

Anyone have both the steez SV and the Antares DC that can comment on pros and cons?

Just put a couple of baseball cards in the holes on the spool of a regular reel.

So adding in anothe rpossible option the scorpion DC.

Same questions, how do they compare. I am coming from Steez SV, worth a change for the sounds?  Advantages over the steez?

When most people ask about reels there are a few things in particular they want to know. How does it handle light baits, is it forgiving in the wind, does it skip well, is it easy to pitch, is it smooth under a load, etc, etc, etc.

If you don't have any specific questions about why one would be better over the other and all you want is the sound, then get any of them.

Money no option, get the Antares DC MD XG, don't want to spend that much? Get the Scorpion DC, even lower, the Curado DC, but if the only thing you want is the sound, get the SLX DC.

Don't think I have ever heard anybody come right out a say they want to buy a reel because they like the way it sounds.

You looking for a particular rod sound to harmonize with the reel. Go for a third, fourth, or maybe a sixth. I’d stay away from a major 7th or a diminished fifth, but that’s just me.

Why not just fish with the Steez and blow into a kazoo when you cast. Good times.

I have the Curado DC and it has been a great reel.  I have been able to cast lures in conditions that would usually be quite difficult and the DC braking system works flawlessly.  From a price point, I think this reel is pretty decent value when you compare it to other DC reels.

My curado dc reels are great and cast very well. The reel is a little wider then the normal curado k without the dc system in it. Go to a store if your able to and get your hands on whatever is available.

I like my Curado DC. I like it alot. But what kills it is the weight. I don't have a Steez... yet... but when I compare it to my Tatula SV's, Elites, or my other Shimanos, that weight just stands out.

The DC so d is loved yet the ceramic bearings sound is despised. Personally I don’t care either way as long as I can get my bait where I want it.

The Anteras DC is bulkier, But I feel more balance while using antennas, Despite being heavy and bulky but it really feel more balance, Thats why Anters DC is my to go reel with my conquest rod.

and my metanium Dc is my second choice.

I got my set of ceramic bearings that you put in my Curado 51E from a guy that didn't like the noise they made.  I actually like the noise.

Thats the biggest drawback with the SLX and Curado DC theyre really wide.  The Metanium and Antares have a different DC system in them Im not sure if they are much smaller or not.  Honestly I think the SVs are much better with lighter baits.  I think the DCs do a little better with distance, but IMO they arent the end all reels that some people say they are.

which DC Model is the smallest?

i like smaller profile baitcasters.

Where do the DCs shine? Is it for mainly windy conditions or light lures?
