I have a bait buying problem.

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I have a bait buying problem. I have two five gallon buckets in my man cave slap full of unopened soft plastics. Every time I say enough, I find a color or brand of colors that are calling my name. I will say that I am able actually use various different colors and types to see if I can find a hidden gem in there somewhere. I think the allure for me is thinking I’ll never have enough because they will all catch fish and I love variety. Not to mention I especially love the clearance bins full of old stock. I feel like I could stock a small army for a fishing trip or two.

Im sure I’m preaching to the choir with everything I’ve said lol I’m sure many of you also have just as much or more than my little ole two buckets. I’m actually ok with my addiction as it makes for big trips to the water a lot!

Edit: the bait monkey is sitting on my shoulder as I typed.

Wait until he has you buying molds, plastisol, hardener/softener, heat stabilizer and coloring. And lead, wire, hooks, wire forms, paints, powder paints. A new microwave and toaster oven. Vices, pliers, workbench, airbrushes and compressors.

There is a plus, more time on the water testing new baits.

I don’t think I want to venture into that world lol

Welcome to the club

Thank you!

I honestly have to say that my most acquired soft plastic would easily have to be Zoom trick worms for shakey head. I probably have every color at least to the point that I am finding new colors so I buy them only to discover that I already have two or three packs of them lol

Ever since I started catching bass on shakey head setups I have been addicted to finding the perfect....colors. It’s easily my favorite technique for bass fishing.

I don't have a bait monkey problem.  I will also never buy any Googan crap.  What?!  They have little Ned rig worms with rattles in them?!!!  Guess what I bought this weekend....so what time is next week's meeting?

"+ 95"??? They sure are purty though.

As do all of us!!!  I have just accepted the fact that no matter how hard I try I am always going to be buying tackle.  When I am dead and gone I am sure my buddies will be having a grand old time in my fishing room dividing tackle up!  haha..  I have totes for each style of soft plastic I own, and some need a second tote started for said style!  You are just getting started!!!

I love collecting fishing gear and I absolutely love going into my fishing room and tinkering, rigging up rods, pulling baits out and admiring them and even smelling them ? when I’ve had a hard day at work I grab a beer and just head to my fishing room to mess around and let go of my stress.

Just like my granddaughters. "Playing with my toys".

*I've done so many rehab stints at Restful Meadows Rehab Center - (Fishing Ward) that the staff know me on a first name basis and always offer up a hearty : "Welcome Back" ! when ever they see me again .

Good ole RMRC, I was asked to leave due to contraband. They found a single hook in my shaving kit, pretty sure I was ratted out by a crappie guy.

Meh......I managed to all but banish the monkey.  I understand him and I know he's lurking but I know how I fish and what I need.  I'm more in danger of being TOO locked into my habits than trying a bunch of new things.  Most of my purchases are restock rather than new stuff

I do this also!  Was down there last evening messing with stuff.  Getting my boat boxes ready and putting plastics in my KVD speed bags for the boat!  haha  Those will all change six more times before the ice is off the water!!

My problem is less about buying than storing all the old junk baits that I don't like.

Well, shipmate, I believe you might consider this solution! Just get a ten gallon bucket! Then you can say, in all honesty, I only have one bucket of gear!

When I say I will never use all this stuff in my lifetime, I say - what else would I do with my money. Sort of like confession. I feel good and buy some more.

I can quit any time I want....

Me too.  I have quit five times now......

Lately, my problem is that I buy a bunch of "new" colors and patterns to try and then find out that I have two or three of the same thing already.  Must be getting old....

This is my new problem...I keep looking for more molds, and colors I want to make more baits in.

I sure as heck make a ton of neds, beavers and craws....I need some worms, bugs, and some flukes now...if you think buying em is addicting, wait til you start making them, and you like that....

Well, next winter is when I am going to try my hand at pouring my own, so most of these days baits are going to get melted down into hopefully productive shapes, lol.

It's not so much a hey I gotta have this new shiny thingy, as to I have this, and it works for me..but...

Ooooh! Look at the purty colors! I must buy many many multiples!
