They're great fun. I keep saying I'm going to see another Classic weigh in, but I always go to the beach or just go fishing instead. The last ones I saw were at the Richmond Coliseum in '88 and '90.

 

There will be another Northern Open just down the street on the James in May, so that will have to do. Unless I go fishing.  

 

The two I went to had way more than just the weigh in.  There's vendors, new boats, merchandise shops, and exhibits set up by the weigh in tent.  Plus the two I went to were at a casino and we went in for the seafood buffet after the weigh in for dinner lol

I was just thinking the same thing. That big swimbait was his downfall, he just couldn't get away from it.

Here’s a visual for the amount of current flowing through the lake . The ramp above the dam is slam packed. I saw two Osprey there, a bout a month earlier than normal 

 No prediction of any change in current so far, although the weather man says 5 inches of rain over the weekend. Should be nice and sunny in that case! 

I have to drive across the bridge that zaldain is fishing near in the next hour or three 

Maybe I don’t fish shallow enough? 

One thing that will be a factor: right now the current is ripping. They are predicting a decent little flood this weekend. Ironically that will cause TVA to pretty much shut off the current, which will cause fish to move on Saturday and maybe Sunday 

 

note the dramatic decrease for volume coming out of Douglas into fort loudoun predicted for feb 27

That reminds me. I should go check on my osprey down at the George Creek ramp. Hopefully they didn't decide to move.

I'm thinking about the length limits.  Seems like going after the smallmouth is risky with the 18-inch requirement.

The leader is fishing smallies at the moment. It’s a gamble! He’s in the canal that connects the two lakes. Maybe some of the strongest current besides where they take off from 

 

hes got a 16 lb limit 

Found a good place to eat a bag of chips 

Zaldain is now where I ate my chips with no trolling motor drifting with the current

Brown fish have to be 18” to go in livewell

It is for smallmouth. 14 for largemouth. That’s the regs for the pool they are fishing. I think On pickwick, the next stop, it’s 15 inches for smallies

My last stop of the work day, had to help a co worked reach a hard to get to place with a long ladder. I guess they are doing a later check in because all the pros just drove right by us! It was quite loud 

This is from today. Fun Fact, I competed against Chris for probably 8 or 9 years in local club tournaments. He made it to the Elites 3 or 4 years ago. The local clubs banned professional fishermen from competing after Chris made it to the top. #chainrats

Happens a lot around here, I’ve busted 3-4. Wheeler did it during the ‘19 classic.
