Wacky Hack

Featured Replies

Someone recently shared this video with me and I thought others might be interested.

I expected to see the same old “hack” with the o ring tool, but that was a new one, and the best I’ve seen. Thanks for sharing

Worth a try - having the Goody's hair bands in different diameters will be the key to fit more worm thicknesses.

Great hack

I use O rings all the time. No tool. I just start at the narrow end, slide it up as far as it can go easily, then pull the narrow end which stretches the body and allows the O ring to slide up into the mid-position. It takes five seconds max. And no skin hooking. Which will cause a Senko to rip, so no thank you.

I just criss cross two o-rings. Same effect.

I have done the same thing.  My preference is for the hook to be perpendicular to the worm and I can’t do that with a single o-ring (I don’t think).  I thought this was a pretty simple way and I hadn’t seen it before.  Some may like it...some may hate it.

If I didn't already have the tool (and enough of the o-rings that I don't need to worry about buying more for some time) I wouldn't have a bit of trouble using the hair ties. Sounds like a fine idea.

My favorite is still and will always be heat shrink tubing. I can catch 20+ fish on 1 GY senko with 2/0 vmc neko hook

I keep forgetting to try that. I've got a grip of heat shrink in with my electrical tools, gotta see if I got a size I wanna use.

VMC Wacky Jig Head (1/16th oz. to 1/8th oz.) + a Zman 5" Zinkerz : The set up allows you to hook through the middle and due to elaztec stretch / durability , you can use the same Zinkerz all day . When the middle gets a bit ragged just use a VMC drop dead 3/0 1/16th oz. EWG hook and fish the same Zinkerz  T-Tigged for a week or more ... When that set up gets too ragged - reverse and switch ends ... When that set up gets too ragged to use - cut the Zinkerz in half and now you have two of the perfect , pre-chewed Ned soft plastic for a 1/16th mushroom head to use with the Ned rig !! ... One Zman Zinkers will last 2.5 years used in the above way (lol !)

I do the same with surgical tubing.

What’s the heat shrink tube trick?

Heat shrink about 1/4" wide in the center of the stick bait and then stick your hook in. Stronger than an o-ring. I shove my hook through the actual heat shrink so the hook is perpendicular to the bait and the bait never comes off.
