From gill plate to dinner plate.

Wife and I were camping on a lake and as I was leaving to go fishing she asked me to bring her back a fish as she always does and I never do.

Was throwing a weightless Senko and hung a good one, 4.0 hook right through the gill plate so cut the barb and backed the hook out.

The bleeding started and the fished succumbed after 15 minutes, I tried.

Worse part, trolled over to shore where fish was caught and see large female on bed, I caught the 2 1/2# male and she looked 5 or 6.

Best part, wife was so excited, grabbed the fish off the boat, scaled it, gutted it and seasoned it.

Cooked it on the open fire and it was actually a delicacy.

Wife said " SEE ". lol

Still not keeping any unless the unfortunate happens.

I gotta give it to the crazy angler with a knot, he made a mean ginger, garlic and scallion steamed LMB...

I don't eat fresh water fish often, but several are pretty good table fare. Nothing wrong with harvesting fish.

I kept 6 nice gills today for a fry!

I have ate more LMB than most people I know of combined. Some would have me burned at the stake if they knew. I haven't had one in probably 15 years or so but when I was in college a good fish fry with some fried taters and corn on the cob was a lot better than Ramen. LOL

Good on you for cooking the lmb for your wife.

we harvest  the smaller bass on all our camping trips and have for years.we like to fry them most of the time but they are delicious grilled too.

I have kept a few lately due to them swallowing the hook.

I normally don't like to keep bass, but they weren't going to make it.

So into the frying pan. Not too bad. Better than I remembered them to be.

When there's room in the freezer I'll fill it with sub 3 lb LM or any size Spots.

I'll put in as many fillets from 2#-3# bass as I can legally do. We're limited to 6 fish in possession (LMB and SMB combined) - that includes in the freezer.

Sweet, incentive to cook them faster. :)

I like to eat LM bass, I don't understand when people talk bad about their taste. I think I have pretty discriminating taste and I love them! Around here, that means fried. I have eaten a bazillion of them. Fillets, mind you. Around here, everybody always mentions crappie as the "Oh, I so love eating them!" And, if anything, I find them a bit bland.

Today, I caught a limit of 25 huge bluegill and will clean them tomorrow. Will be awesome! Bream are good eating.

I like catfish, too. So, there's four local fish I like. A lot!

That sounds like a good recipe.  I usually do a scallion and ginger base layer, season the [whole] fish on the top side with salt and pepper and the bottom side with chinese shrimp paste and lay it on top of the scallion/ginger base.  Drizzle the top with a little bit of sesame oil and then steam for just a few minutes.  Better than restaurant quality.  And fresher.

Let the lioness bring you the food. My fiancé had to teach me to cut up a hog but I can fillet fish blindfolded haha.

I used to fill my freezer with fish, now I just fill my belly with them. They rarely make it to the freezer
