Certain colored senkos softer than others?

Featured Replies

I recently bought straight black and straight green pumpkin and notice the black is softer and has better action than the green pumpkin on a fall. Anyone else notice this? The watermelon and black are the same “softness” where as the green pumpkin with black flake and another color seem “harder” and less durable with not as much wiggle on the fall

Maybe there was some slight variance in the Senkos you were using, but the

colors themselves are not softer or harder.

i think GYM is one of the most consistent plastic company i fish. our local guy, pouring hand poured worms, well i buy them because i feel sorry for him.  the big companies make very good products.

I don’t know about softer but black is my best color by far

I've never noticed any significant difference in the softness of my Senko's.  But, I don't very my colors much.

Keen observation and you are 100% correct.  I have written about it in multiple articles and even posted it here.  Certain colors react differently to skipping and the actions do change.  It has to do with a number of things like the amount of pigment in a color, what type of pigment and also the flake.  There are different size flakes, different amounts of flakes, multiple combinations of flakes, etc.  while the overall weight of the bait may not vary that much, it will affect the action.  Guaranteed.

There could be minute differences with different colors and associated flakes, but the real difference is with production runs. I have seen differences with most brands, more with some than others.

While I would agree that run variances could happen, the differences I am speaking of are constant which eliminates random run issues.  ?

For sure, GYCBs are certainly more consistent than some from production to production, (except when they go salt crazy) but taking into account that the guys (and gals) making these things are breathing the 55 gallon drums all day, I'm surprised they don't all look like cellophane flowers,.. :)  Maybe the next hot bait will be the Blue Meanie...

Yup compare straight black with green pumpkin and you’ll see a big difference in softness. The black is more “rubbery” which IMO lasts longer. Watermelon black flake and bubblegum also have the same feel to it as straight black

I think a blind-folded test is in order here.

Aw Son!

Unsolicited story: I caught a fish on my first ever cast with a Senko. I bought a pack at a sportsman show in Columbia, SC after watching a guide's seminar about wacky rigging it. I went very early spring (still winter) and tossed that thing at a stump. Only fish I caught all day. But the stick worm caught me.
