Wife is a fanatical bird lover, especially hummingbirds. 

We have a very large population of hummingbirds which requires 20oz of nectar per day, 4 feeders. 

 

Just this past week paper wasps invaded the feeders and were very aggressive towards the birds. 

Wife is upset " what are we going to do ? " feeders covered in wasps. Lol

Obviously we can't spray the feeders with wasp spray. 

 

So this morning I came up with a very effective game plan......a shop vac.

Yes, stood outside for 15 minutes with weapon in hand and sucked up the whole colony of workers.

Hummingbirds thanked me.

Great idea!

 

BTW: You may want to be careful when you empty the shop vac. Perhaps create a flood and vac the water first...LOL

Yep, thought of that to. 

Stuffed a sock in the end and just leaving it outside for awhile. 

The ones that got sucked up won't starve to death as I accidentally sucked a feeder dry. Lol

It would surprise me if they weren’t all dead.  I sucked up a bunch of ants once and all were dead inside the vac.

Bird feeders keep me in business 

We do that with Honey bee removals. We then let them loose in the woods  or give em to a bee keeper.

Yellow Jackets now… we take no prisoners!

Wasps usually aren’t numerous enough to vacuum so we kill em with wasp freeze and knock down the nests.

 

 

   I hate hornets like the Demon Horde. I accidentally found out that there are many things you can use brake cleaner for.           jj

The saga continues. 

This must be a catholic colony, very large family. 

I've ran the shop vac every 2 hrs and well over 100 wasps have fallen. 

 

I'm up for the challenge.

Freeze gopher!!!!

I live out in the country and we take our trash to a county solid waste center that has dumpsters for trash,  large items,  and recycling.   I noticed last time I was there that the aluminum can recycling dumpster had an enormous number of bees, wasp and other stinging insect in and around it.  They really like sugar water.

I used to work at a golf course cleaning the carts. Procedure was pour out the beer , throw the cans away, and hose it down with pressure washer. That trash can full of empty beer cans was a constant swarm of yellow jackets
