So do you like the lancers more than the cobbs? How much power difference is there between a medhvy and a mag medhvy?

Same rods different cosmetics far as I can tell. I don't have a standard MH from ARK to compare to other than the Hammer, and it's a 7' MH XF with a soft tip. Completely different animal. The ARK 7'3" Mag MH blank has the power of my Kaden 765 Flip, but is lighter and more sensitive.

Fair enough...thanks for the info

Cobbs analysis of the two. The 7'3" standard MH isn't available in the Lancer, just the Cobb. Same price, same blank material, same guides, seat, handle, different cosmetics.

Harness the power of the Berkley lightning  rod

I got a Lightning spinning rod for Father’s Day three or four years ago. It’s a good one. I accidentally broke 2 inches off the tip with the car door and fixed it, now I like it even more. Weird

? I think they're very good for what they cost, especially since they upgraded the guides from stainless to aluminum oxide. The 7' MH was my jig rod for several years. It's actually the rod I caught my PB LM on.

Just a random thought...

If I were looking for a budget jig rod, the overall weight of the rod would be something I paid close attention to. Maybe not the determining factor, but something that would definitely carry... weight, in my decision (sorry, I couldn't resist).

Excellent rod, I would go with the 7' MH X-Fast

H2O XPRESS Ethos HD Micro $49.99

You know I've wanted to try a procyon for a while now as I've never had one..this may be the deal after all!

I like the new lightning rods alot but I'm picky about length for my worm and jig rods. I like 7'1 to 7'4..and the lightning doesnt come in those off sizes. Like I said its nit picky..if my budget was under $50 it would be an easy choice..but my budget is around $80-$100 so I can swing a little more. Plus I've got a buddy that really likes his procyon so if I don't like it I can sell it to him and buy 2 lightning rods!

Thanks for all the info and feedback...decided to go with the Ark lancer pro 7'3" mag medhvy. I like my Tharp rod so much I wanna try another one of their offerings.

Daiwa Procyon 7'3" MH/F

I think these are great rods for the price. It's interesting that Daiwa actually has two separate rods at this price point ($79.99) that are aiming for the same market, with the other being the Fuego series. The Procyon being offered in a more traditional styling with the cork butt materials, and the Fuego being more modern with the EVA handles, and they are complimentary to the aesthetics of their wildly popular Fuego casting reels. Both are very good IMHO and punch above their weight on the value scale.

I think you'll be very pleased with your choice. That blank will do a lot. It's one that never leaves my deck, and I usually have two with me. Let us know how you like it after you get to take it for a spin.

I hear ya. I'm glad I have the new boat to keep me busy on days off for the next few weeks. Bought a Polar Kraft 1648 mod v jon. Building an all aluminum deck in it. All my reels are serviced and I don't need to make too many baits. I'd be going stir crazy without the boat project.

The clear plastic reel seat of the Lightning Rod WILL break. It's happened to me on the 2 I've had before I stopped trying to get away with cheap rods. Aird-X is the king in the $50 range.

The clear plastic is on the new lightning shocks..and I agree I don't like them. The new lightning rods have a black reel seat..they are solid for $40. I agree tho the Aird is in a different class for the money.
