A year ago, Sportsman’s Warehouse entered into a merger agreement with Great American Outdoors, parent company of Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shops. Effective December 2, 2021, that merger agreement was terminated. Old news. They don't have enough cash to keep going much longer. I guess the regulators prefer a liquidation to a merger.

If they want to stay in business they need to be lowering their prices. I can order stuff a whole lot cheaper than buying from them. I don't have to make a 10 minute drive to the store so I'm saving on gas too.

Who needs them when you got Toledo Tackle and the Honey Hole!!  I lived in the area for years and didn't realize how good I had it until I moved 4 hours away.

That's not how it works.

They need to figure out their inventory issues and actually keep things in stock.  Even commonly available stuff and commodity items run out constantly at ours, let alone anything special.

I agree.  When Cabela's and BPS first came to my city they were separate companies.  Both drove the few local outdoor shops out of business.  Back then Cabela's/BPS were the best thing since slice bread but the bread is pretty moldy these days.

Let me rephrase that. They need to lower their prices if they want my business. It's a rare day I go in there and actually buy something. I'm not going to support a business that has much higher prices on items I can get a lot cheaper elsewhere.

I miss the old Cabela's.  I remember when they first built the one in Dundee, MI, it was an outdoor shop unlike anything else I had been in previously.  I remember lusting over the then new Abu Morrum in that store on my first visit, the price tag on that guy was $299 which was quite a bit of coin for 19 year old red.

Yup. There is a saying in sporting goods retailing, "The enthusiast is not your customer" applies to everything from scuba regulators to ski bindings and everything in between.

Sales without margins is a sure way to go under.

I remember the first time we visited the store as well.  The mounts were a work of art, and it was as good as a zoo for 14 year old.

We have one Sportsman's Warehouse here in SE Michigan, it used to be Field and Stream.

The one closest to me is in Greensboro, N.C. and I think it looks like a Cabela's on the outside but inside no comparison.  It's 40 miles closer to me than Cabela's but I don't shop often.  Prices are a bit inflated.

Hey buddy, Next time your down towards Chattanooga, they have Sportsman's Warehouse. It's a pretty nice store, prices are in line with BPS, heck they're prices a pretty much in line with the mom and pop store's where I live. I was there one morning before Christmas, shelves were well stocked.

Literally just went in there yesterday. Had pretty good stock on everything in the fishing section

They just opened one within a reasonable drive for me, about a half hour.  I went to it with a couple of fishing buddies on Tuesday.   They had a good selection and the prices were similar, maybe a bit cheaper than Cabela's/Bass Pro.  I know we're not going to be driving the two hours to the nearest Cabela's or the hour and a half to the nearest Bass Pro anymore.  They even had a decent selection of fly tying materials.

I was in the Lexington store last week. Fully stoked but like mentioned before, A bit high. I know they are brick and mortar but $10.49 for a Strike King frog?
