Rod question

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. I’m a bank fisherman and typically like to travel light. I like to stick to one rod that I can use for multiple presentations but one rod that I had a question on was a medium power moderate action spinning rod. I want to be able to present a weighted Texas rig and a wacky rig if needing to really finesse down. My question is with this type of rod, would I really have trouble setting the hook?  Or would I be able to get by?

depends on your hook size and diameter of your hook, If thin wire you can do it, But remember the fish can straighten the hook if fight and you'll loose fish.

I use a MF for wacky rigs and also for weightless Texas rigs with Zoom Tricks, etc.

MF is fine.

Give us a pricing point and you will get some specific suggestions.

Well I actually do have a mf spinning rod and couple of baitcaster for some heavier presentations but I like the feel of the mm spinning rod. Just have never used it for Texas rigging as I didn’t know if I would have trouble setting the hook.

A MM sounds awful to me for everything but small crankbaits.  My least favorite action and would abhor it in spinning.

You might be ok with braid for better hook sets.

A medium moderate wouldn't be my choice for those techniques.  There would be way too many things to fight with a rod like that unless you are using small light weight crankbaits.  A medium fast would be a better choice.
