What is a good trailer (toad etc.) to use on a  3/8 oz. buzz bait single prop. Size and brand advice appreciated. This is new to me. Thanks.

split tail Zoom or equivalent are a good start.  They add a little extra length and profile plus give the bass something solid to suck in.  If you're fishing a trailer hook (i am most of the time) you can thread the trailer on first and then the hook over top.  Doing it this way, I prefer to put the tubing over the eye of the trailer hook before I thread it on so it stays a little higher on the main hook and out of the way of the split tail.  Its less free swinging, but still moves plenty if a fish is hooked.

 

I'm trying the Kalin's scrub this year.  Its a twin tail with small paddles.  Its a shorter trailer, but thick.  It adds a bunch of weight to the buzzbait for castign without making it ride too much lower in the water or forcing you to work it faster.  We'll see how it goes.  I can say that it casts really well (and a mile if you want) and looks good on the surface, but I only fished it about 10 minutes the last time out.

I have had more success using a Zoom Super Speed Craw on buzz baits this year instead of a toad. 

 

As far as the brand of buzzbait, I use a 3/8 or 1/2 oz. Lunker Lure or Boogerman exclusively.

Length matters on buzzbaits trailers. Too short and you lose action, too long it interferes with hook up %. 
 

For most 3/8 oz buzzbaits a 3.5 inch plastic is about perfect. I use the Zoom Z Craw Junior 3.5 inch size.

Same here.

 

But sometimes I will use a Suicide Shad.

 

Those two cover it: no skirt with either.

Off the buzz bait beaten path for trailers , here are some interesting choices : 3.5 ~ 4 inch paddle tail swim bait , craw or creature . The Zoom Z-Craw 3.5" , Strike King 3.75" Rage Swimmer are very good and currently experimenting with the Z-Man GOAT 3.75" to see if I can get a slower retrieve out of it when needed. I tend to consider the Zoom split tail as more of a spinner bait trailer but I'm sure it would work too with a buzz bait . Lastly , the Zoom original 4" Fluke may work well as a buzz bait trailer.

Net bait works for me, paca chunk is a little small, they have a bunch of other trailers too twin tail is good too. Reasonably priced too.

Maybe I'll do some testing this year.

Plus I've been getting hit with regularity with whopper ploppers.

I don't like too heavy of a trailer, so I opt for the Zoom Speed Craw.A clacker is a must and get a pair pliers and crimp the revit. Black buzzbaits are the deal. If you use a trailer, begin reeling right before it lands.

I use a paddletail swimbait with the size depending on what buzzbait I'm using.

I throw spinnerbaits exclusively without trailers and it works great for me. I might have to try that with a buzzbait?

I've never understood the need for or the desire for a trailer on buzzbaits. With that added weight you're going to have to reel in that much faster to keep it on the surface.

 

I prefer no trailer, and that lets me vary my retrieval speed within a single cast or on each cast. And I catch a ton on buzzbaits. Most seasons I need to replace them at least once because they get so bent up or break apart from being crushed all season.
