How much curve in a rod blank is generally acceptable to you? Just got in a new rod, and it has a little more than I’m used to seeing (in a graphite rod). 
 

I don’t believe it affects the rods performance, and this one is assembled on the spine, which is (arguably) nice. But when it’s enough to be visible it kind of affects the aesthetics of a rod. 
 

So to the techy rod guys… what say you?

Take it back.

I don’t know if that’s technically a problem, but it would drive me insane. I would see it every time I pick up the rod.

This signals problems: 1- Bad storage in very hot condition and with the rod under tension. 2- The carbon mesh was blended with low quality resin, with low heat tolerance.

@AmmoGuy - I would consider that rod damaged beyond use - I suspect it will break on a good fish. 

You can be sure it came off the mandrel straighter than that.  It was probably bent during transport

I’m not sure that’s correct. It is VERY hard to a graphite blank to take a set. I’m pretty sure this blank finished the manufacturing process thus way.

What rod is that? I don't think that would be acceptable. 

Most rod blanks aren't perfectly straight but are built in such a way that the curve isn't noticeable. Most custom rod builders don't build on the spine but the straightest axis to minimize the appearance of the curve.

This is pretty extreme though and I would definitely take it back.

I would definitely return it and I would contact Daiwa just in case.

There's no world in which I keep that rod. I've sent rods back for much less noticeable curvature.

Straight to my eye yes they are but I haven't checked everyone I've seen. Most brands are straight. I also check to make sure the guides are straight. If they aren't I don't buy it. If I ordered the rod and the blank is not straight or the guides it goes back.

I've seen some glass rods warp when left in hot cars and other toastie places, and graphite rods will take a set, but assuming that pic is accurate, that's extreme. I'd be curious to find out if it started life that way or not.

The guides are assembled perfectly opposite the direction of the curve, and on the "spine".  So I'm assuming it started out this way. 

Have to agree that would drive me nuts and I'd return it too. 

I don't get why anyone would even consider keeping it. 

No blank is arrow straight but a bend that deep in the blank is unusual. Whether or not it indicates potential failure is conjecture but better safe than sorry.

Actually this is pretty common. Blanks losing mesh stability over thermal stress.

I would send that back. A little bit off is normal, but that looks like there is pressure being applied to it.
