Rod for each bait/technique what else to add?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone right now this is my Set up

Berkley Lightning Medium 6’6” + Abu Garcia Silver Max  6.4-Texas Rig

BPS Bionic Blade Med/Hvy 6’9”+ Abu Garcia Silver Max 6.4 - Texas Rig

Daiwa Fuego Med/Hvy 7’3”+ Fuego 7.3- Texas Rig

Daiwa Fuego Med/Hvy 7’3”+Fuego 6.3- Crankbait

Daiwa Aird X Heavy 7’+ Fuego 8.1 - Frog

Daiwa Aird X Med/Hvy  7’+ Daiwa CA80 6.8 - Jerkbait

Daiwa Aird X Med/Hvy 7’+ Daiwa CA 80 7.5- Spinnerbait

Abu Garcia MLF Combo Med/Hvy  7’ + Abu 6.4 - Chatterbait

What do you guys think of those set ups for each technique they look correct? I know the chatterbait rod is nothing special but this is what have dor now.

The bait monkey is scratching my back saying that I need to add something else there, but Im not sure what else can I add or other technique specific

Put 40lb braid on this one:

Daiwa Aird X Med/Hvy  7’+ Daiwa CA80 6.8 - Jerkbait

and use It for toads, buzzbaits, and spooks.

Then get you a medium rod for jerkbaits.

Then get a spinning setup for drop shot/wacky/Ned.

why a Medium for jerkbait is better than a medium/heavy?

the world is your oyster if you want to add things.  You can go up to 8' 1-4 oz swimbait rods if you really want.

What lures do you use that you think your current rods can't handle well?  What lures/techniques do you want to add to your arsenal?  I don't know those rods specifically, but I don't see any heavy pitching/punching type rods and that's always a good thing to have.

I’m surprised you don’t have a punch rod listed, something in the 7’6” -8’ range for leveraging those big girls outta there. Just a thought

My intention is to use the Daiwa Aird X Heavy 7’ that im using for frog now for that, too short for punching?

Eventually you'll want to move up.

Up until this year, that's what my Aird-X Heavy was used for - frogs, pitching, punching.

Now I have a Fury 765-Flip - still use the Aird-X for frogs or 1-1.5oz  topwaters.

I sound like a broken record every time I say this but I would absolutely get/switch out for a slower reel for your spinnerbait setup. I believe having a slower gear ratio helps tremendously when throwing spinnerbaits

I only brought it up as I figured Florida is similar to the Delta in how it fishes regarding punching, at least in my understanding of things. You can probably make a 7’ work, however you probably won’t work as hard and have more leverage when it comes to bigger fish with a 7’6” - 8’ rod.

*There was something mentioned about the bait monkey and I just wanted get him pointed in the right direction.

I believe this rod size should be useful when on a boat correct? I fish mostly from the bank a 8’ rod can be trouble to carry around
