I know, another “best rod” post ?. I’m looking for a good rod around the $100 - $150 range for throwing 10”+ Texas rigged worms in heavier cover. I was thinking I’d need something at least 7’3” but more likely closer to 7’5” or 7’6”, Heavy power with Fast action.

Abu Garcia Veritas PLX 7'6 MHF.  Hard to beat for the price and it handles like a heavy IMHO.  Abu rods are stiffer than they're rated usually.

Don't know what the best big worm rod is for that price.  I can advise against the tatula 73 mh because I have one.  Its very tip heavy and on the softer side for a big worm rod.  My lews walmart mh floats in my hand compared to the tatula mh so I would at least take a look at lews rods in that range.  

What about a Shimano Intenza 7’4” Heavy/Fast? I can find one for under $100…would this be a good rod for the job?

I've never handled one, but there are several reviews on tackle warehouse to check out.  The intenza is a rod sporting a 30-ton blank w/ aluminum oxide guides.  IMO you could do better for $150.  The Ark rods get great reviews...I know @T-Billy is a big fan.  They seem to have a lot of blank for the money...even the $60 model has a 36T blank.

I use a Tatula 7'6" Heavy. Works great

I'm also a huge fan of the ARK Tharp line. I think and know the Money Maker works perfect for big worms. Best bang for the buck in my humble opinion. Brian.

I gave away 2 Lew's rods after I bought my Tatula. I will say Lew's TP1 Black is a pretty decent rod.

Thanks.  I'll avoid those if I ever get another lews stick.  I have the hank parker and feels better in hand from a weight and balance perspective with a 6.7 ounce reel on it that my tatula elite 73MH  that also has a 6.7 ounce reel on it.  The tatula is sensitive and has a great action but all that thick epoxy on the blank adds weight forward of the reel seat.   The cheap walmart lews actually feels very good however it is a very stiff broomhandle of a medium heavy.

I ain't talking about the Elite series, you can't run fast enough to give me anything with EVA grips.

 

As far weight I used Calcuttas for years that puppy is over 9 ozs without a rod.

 

I give y'all another excellent rod in this price range.

I like their rods. Also M1 is good.

Any decent 5 or 6 power Jig rod will work for big worms 10”+ with 4/0 or 5/0 worm hooks. 

Why do you want a longer rod, it’s heavier and slower hook setting unless you plan to cast a C-rig?

Curious- I have always found a longer rod to be better on the hookset since I pick up more line with it. I also run braid to leader on everything so stretch isn't ever a concern for me...

I use the reel to pick up line much faster the swinging a longer rod can. After the line loads up then sweep the rod back firmly. When casting over 100’ You need to recover a few yards of line not a few feet.

1 reel handle turn recovers 2’ of line 5 fast turns recover 10’ of line! Swinging a 7’6” rod 45 degrees may move the line at the hook the line 3’, if the rod tip doesn’t bend.

Shorter cast under 60’ just reel the rod tip down before hook setting.

Longer rod can launch a lure further depending on casting skills etc.
