So I've got a bottle of this and can't decide what I really think...I mean its tasty but it has more heat than I'd expect at that proof. I keep seeing videos and reading reviews saying its one of the best bourbons under $25. Anybody a fan?Anything you like better at the price point? How much better is rare breed for an extra $20?

Yup!  Have a 1.75 under the counter.  It's fantastic for mixing with Coke Zero.  It's not an unpleasant sipper, but you can't expect a lot at that price point.  For a straight sipper close to that price I like the Old Forester 100 bourbon ($27).  If you like rye, the Old Forester Rye 100 is excellent for $27.  I don't consider the Wild Turkey 101 something I would just drink neat, but for just a bit more you can get Four Roses Small Batch ($34 at Walmart) and that is an excellent sipping bourbon. 

That bottle was the one I always brought to give to a rancher that let me deer hunt on his ranch.  I didn’t like it. Probably because he opened the bottle immediately and shared a glass with me. It was 7 am. 
 

it burned more than I like. I rarely drink so when I do, I choose higher up the shelf. 

Rare breed is my go to Turkey but 101 is a great option. Mixes well due to the higher proof. If you mix a 80 proof bourbon it waters it down too much where as 100 proof can handle being watered down and still taste good.  Turkey makes a fantastic whiskey sour. Not my favorite for old fashioned though. 

Evan Williams BiB for $20 is a good option too.

 

But I’m at the age where I view my kidneys as a finite resource. So I prefer to drink more refined whiskey and less volume. So I haven’t touched WT101 and EW BiB in a while.

101 is definitely one of my favorites along with Buffalo Trace for a "cheap" sipper. Rare Breed is a whole 'nother level, but with its proof it's usually best enjoyed with some ice.

And that’s Turkey “101” ?. You either love or hate it. Not many are in between. 

Not a big fan of the bourbon taste. When I want some it’s usually Jim Beam or Evan Williams.

 

I prefer blended whisky’s like Crown Royal and Black Velvet

The stories I could tell . Its all right to take a few sips at home , but dont go hiking in the snow with a bottle.
