JDM spinning reel newbie questions

Featured Replies

I’m a spinning gear guy. I’ve tried baitcasters and do okay with them but they aren’t my go to reel.

I am looking for good quality spinning reel with a paddle handle (I think that’s what is called) the larger styled handle mainly for jerk baits and occasional spinner bait.

The Diawa tatula 3000 with the shallow spool caught my eye.

Any JDM specific suggestions or different handle options for regular spinning reels would be appreciated

So far when I have researched reels I haven't found any JDM Tatula LTs 3000 in previous gen or the MQ gen.  They end at 2500. I got a 2500s last winter.  You would probably need to look into the US model.

For a JDM reel in that size and weight with a shallow spool you might want to look into the vanford 3000 HMG

Keep in mind that most Daiwas still have anti reverse switches and the Vanford and most Shimanos do not.

Take a look at the Certate line made by Daiwa.

That or the Certate 3000 as already mentioned are amazing reels, and when you factor in the exchange rate going with JDM, you get so much for your money.

I've ordered from Digitaka three times over the last year, they are nothing short of brilliant to do business with.    They'll ship your reel for free, and it'll get here faster than domestic companies.

So yes, I can't think of a place I'd trust more than Digitaka.

Yes, on numerous occasions. The price at BPS is $610.

Yen based products are a steal right now.

Digitaka is entirely legit...last winter I ordered 5 reels from them...all were in my hand within 3 days and the savings were great.

And I pulled the trigger on another reel - not near the Certate/Exsence/Vanquish level - but at 30% off USDM price, I couldn't resist.
