Greetings from North Georgia!

Hi y’all, Paul from Georgia here. I’m a life-long outdoorsman - fishing, hiking, campng, shooting… I love to be outdoors. I’ve spent my entire adult life in the South, mostly bass fishing, but I grew up on the The Great Lakes (Erie and Michigan) chasing walleye and other northern game fish. My home lake is Lake Allatoona, northeast of Atlanta. We jokingly call it “The Dead Sea” but it’s not really that bad, you just have to know how to fish it. Most weekends you can find me on the lake in my kayak or on one of the nearby reservoirs or rivers, hunting bass. Around here we catch a lot of Spots and Striped Bass, but I’m always on the hunt for Largemouths. I’ve also been an on-again, off-again fly fisherman over the years. At least once year I make it up to the mountains for trout. I’m an avid kayak angler and would love to meet new folks to go fishing with. Drop me a line and I’ll meet you on the water!

Hello Paul and Welcome to Bass Resource ~

A-Jay

Awesome! Welcome!
If and when I get a yak, I’ll give you a holler! I’m sure it beats fishing from the bank. How do you survive the wake from all the Atlanta boaters?

@Drawdown, that certainly is a challenge on lakes like Allatoona. My head is always on a swivel. Being the smallest and lowest thing on the water means I have to be on high alert for idiots. On holiday weekends, the lakes are filled with drunken idiots, so I generally go extra early and get off the water before they all arrive.  I take extra precautions like using a lighted flag, and I keep an air horn with me in case I need to "beep my horn" so to speak ? The wake from boats isn't all that bad, as long as I'm paying attention. I've never been swamped or anything like that. I also frequent many of our electric-only reservoirs, which tend to be less pressured than some of the bigger public lakes. They tend to be smaller but with the absence of powerboats, they're safer and less often fished.

Howdy from Kentucky Paul. Sounds like you've been having a mess of fun already. Lots to learn here if you're looking to expand your bass fishing skillset.

I've been wanting to get into yak fishing myself, but haven't taken the plunge yet. I don't know anyone that is into it here. And... my son, who is 4, refuses to let me hit the water without him. So for now, its on hold until he's old enough that we can kayak together I reckon.

Hey, Paul, I'm a paddler too. I looked carefully at your photo to spot your paddle because some kayak anglers are now propelled by motors and whereas they are former kin, I no longer consider them family. Okay, maybe 12th cousins, 32 times removed.
