All - looking for a good replacement for Xcalibur traps. I’m not sold on RES for the size and action. I’ve tried Booyah, but they don’t have Bling in the Hard Knocker 1/4oz size and colors are somewhat lacking otherwise. Any help/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Another vote on Aruku or Jackall TN.  They are just killer here in MI. 

You want bling look at Yo-Zuri Mini Vibe.

I have had very good luck with the little 1/4 oz RES including catching 45 fish on it one day on my fishing trip that included a couple of pike. The small bait is a nice change up when the fish are being picky and ignoring larger lipless lures.

the LV50 is 1/4oz if my memory is right.

 

we know the bigger LV500 catches fish.

I still have several 1/4oz Xcaliber traps that I like but the 1/4oz RES has been really good also. The Owner Cultiva Mira Vibe 60 is slightly heavier than 1/4oz but has a similar size profile and is an excellent smaller lipless bait also. 

Discount tackle has 1/4 oz. Bling.  One knocker gets first call a lot from now to cold weather for me. Had a lot of fun with it this afternoon.

1/4oz red eyed shad got me started this year in the winter. I think it caught my first fish on January 14th in MO. Super friggin cold water. My whole thought about the small 1/4oz in the winter is that it falls slow and retrieves slow, both of which I want in the winter. It’s not really about the size. I continued to have success on that weight lipless in my super early season and I’ll use it again when we hit winter

I personally have more confidence in the red eye shad than any other lipless crankbait but I'm going to be putting a lot of time in with the trap this year. Got to give the classics a fair shake.

Don’t forget Cotton Cordell . I keep plenty of them handy

What I noticed last year fishing deeper water is that the traps run a bit higher up than the RES and even the old rattle rap. My father in law was putting a hurting on me until I realized I wasn’t getting down to the fish. So depending on the situation that could be good or bad.
