Searching for a better worm hook

Featured Replies

Matt Steffen has a Youtube video on bobber stop uses. One of his hacks was to put it on a worm hook . My last two outings I have been using a Gamy 3.0 with the bobber stop on the bend . It has worked splendidly . Not one time has the worm balled up on the shank . My hook up ratio has never been better. Next year I might be using something else but for the time being this is the bomb. One hint . Put the stops on at home. Its a little tricky to get them through the hole.

I fish almost exclusively for spotted bass and use an exposed

hook. This is the book I use. You’ll lose the head before the worm

comes off

Yep, those would work . They are not available here. So I use what is handy.

Mustad grip pins do work good. They are a thicker gauge hook than gamakatsu’s, so I like to carry both.

That is a cool tip though! I might just try it

You guys are reinventing the wheel.

I have been using Parasite clips successfully for 15 years I think.

Posted about it many times.

Works with vitrually any hook and soft plastic.

TW has them as well.

Small & Medium sizes cover 1/0 thru 5/0 ewg or round bend hooks.

I have parasite clips , they work keeping the worm in place but the sinker doesnt lay flush with the worm . They cause line twist for me.

Never experienced any of that.

Two possible solutions come to mind though.

If the knot on the hook it too big to fit through the clip, perhaps putting a bobber stop between the clip and the weight would straighten the rig out.

Would protect the knot a bit as well.

I had the same problem. Difficulty going over the barb and/or tearing as it passed over the barb.

I now use Bait Buttons when needed. Far easier, far more convenient.

Decoy also makes silicone stoppers for the hook for the purpose, but I have not used those. Decoy L-11

not to hyjack, i dont understand the mechanics that causes a worm to end up 5 feet upstream of the hook after a bite and hookset.  i pull the fish out of the water and the worm is way up the fishing line.  perplexing for sure. :D

There are several ways to keep the worm in place.  Here are a few.

The one like the parasite clip is made from 20 ga wire from Lowes.  2 headless nails in a board is all of the form needed and you can customize the size.  The cost may be a penny.
