To the ancients in the northern hemisphere, today marks Mid-Winter, the shortest day of the year. From now on, the days will get longer until mid-Summer in June. Celebrations were had for the rebirth of the Sun.

It marks the day that the days are getting longer.  My favorite day of winter is the day before spring.

 

Ahh - mine would be the day after ice-out is declared...which could be anytime between middle of March and middle of May depending - though this year might be really early way things are going.

Last I checked the days are still 24 hours long. 😎

Day for me is when the sun is up...when it's not in the visible sky I call it 'night'.

Always remember:  A day without sunshine is like....night!
