Minn Kota trolling motor foot pedal?

Featured Replies

I was fishing lake Murray the other day (I did not catch anything) my Minn Koda Edge trolling motor worked fine in the morning but stopped working in the afternoon. Any ideas of what this could be? I will say that when I used the side Switch it would work on manual but that was it. Anyway, any ideas would be great

I have a Minn Kota Maxxum and I believe it operates in the same way yours does.  On the side there is a 3-way switch: neutral (off), C (continuous), and M (Manual).

I really never use my continuous option.  Mine is always in off mode or in manual mode.  Do you have a way of disconnecting it?  You might try taking it out, checking for corrosion or loose plugs, and then plugging it back in.  Also check the deep cycle batteries, make sure they have plenty of juice.  Continuous use tends to draw more battery power than manual mode and if you have a low battery, that could be the problem.

@Fishingmickeycorrect, it works I’m manual only.

@gimruis Yes we have the same foot pedal, haven’t had the time to check anything but will on Friday thanks

So it works on manual and when you hit the momentary button on the top of the foot pedal right? But it doesn't work on continuous mode?

Sounds like a bad mode switch - I've got an Edge 45 as well...and rarely run it in Continuous Mode.

@Junger my wording is not so good sometimes but yes it will run on continuous.

@MN Fisher I also don’t like to run continuously. I Just use the trolling motor to position the boat to spots where I can fish better.

Once I found how well the remote works, I haven't used my foot pedal. At the end of last season, I put the foot pedal on the shelf in the garage.

Edge doesn't have the remote option - foot pedal or nothing.

Maxxum doesn't either.

I'd rarely use it anyways.  I need both hands to operate a rod and reel properly.

I’m not sure if the Edge has a reed switch under the momentary button, but that’s what it sounds like to me based on your description. Common issue among Ultrex’s, and the solution is to take off the button and align the reed switch magnet.
