SPRO Fishing Reels

Recommended Posts

I wasn’t aware that SPRO had gotten into the fishing reel business. Is this something brand new? This model the signature Jason Christie looks kinda cool & budget friendly too. Will be interesting to see some reviews about quality after it’s been out on the market for a bit.

"Let's take a $30 plastic aliexpress reel and sell it for $124.99."  Why do we allow them to do this?

Allow them to do this? People can try to sell anything they want. Have you seen late night TV?? 😁

That doesn't mean we need to buy it, and in my opinion, it hurts my view of them. Makes me question their quality intent or if they are just trying to gouge the market.

For instance,... I saw a Spro scale at the local tackle shop. It looked like a cheap plastic piece of junk and they were wanting over $60. You can get cheap Berkley or Rapala ones that are the same cheap quality for half that price.

Makes me question why their baits are so expensive compared to Rapala, SK, or others

There are off shore manufacturers that will gladly produce a reel and put your name on it for the right deal. It’s referred to as brand expansion.  Be the frog.

There’s no way I’d pay $130 for this reel. But if they get decent reviews over next year & go on sale for $50-$60, I might give one a try.

Reels like this I think of being disposable, kinda like the 2 Academy baitcasters I got for $40-$50 on sale. Once I get a few good years outta them, when they start malfunctioning they’re going into trash. Inexpensive reels like this are great for pond hopping & bank fishing, no worries if they get banged up a little. The bulk of my reel arsenal are Shimano & Daiwa, some are pushing 20 yrs old now.

Hit their production run MOQ and you got yourself your very own reel.

I was sponsored by SPRO for a number of years.  I knew their product lines inside and out.  I let it go when I cut back on the in store events and grand openings I participated in. Since then they have exploded their product line.  I don’t know if it’s a good or bad thing but I do know their hard baits were top quality when I used them.  They did a line of rods some 15-20 years ago and they were…….prone to breaking……and they got discontinued.  I sure hope they are not over growing the product line with cheap rebranded items.  It would be a shame.
